Carmarthen Town 3
Connah's Quay Nomads 0 With both teams vying for
third place the game lived up to its reputation as a keenly contested fixture
for a period but fizzled out as a real contest following Griffiths' dismissal
in the 43'. With the result maintaining Carmarthen's its reputation as one of
Connah's Quay's bogie sides. Referee Paul Thomas
showed his intentions early in the game by yellow carding Quay's Jamie Homes
in the second minute. However, in the 43', having booked Hopkins (CQN) on 28'
Kennworthy (CQN) and Dean Rossiter (Carmarthen) on 39' , he sent off Connah's
Quay's Andy Griffiths in the 43' for foul and abusive language. The one player deficit
was too much for the visitors for the second successive game but the home
side were never in any real danger at any stage. Connah's Quay on the
other hand were indebted to their keeper Collister on numerous occasions as
his splendid saves kept Quay's in the game. The first chance of the
game fell to Town on 12' when a long ball from Wyn Thomas found Sion Meredith
who's shot was excellently saved by Collister. A minute later another through
ball found Nicholls and put him one on one with the keeper. Collister having
the best of the encounter with another excellent save. Nicholls made amends on
23' when following a pass on the half way line from Dean Rossiter he
completed the move with some excellent individual work to beat Collister and
put Town ahead with a well taken goal. Town controlled long
periods in the first half with some excellent passing. Jon Kenworthy had some
good runs for Connah's Quay and on one occasion split the defence to give
Kevin Davies a clear chance on goal but Davies blasted wide. Following the break Town
started the better of the two sides and came close on several occasions, with
one effort being cleared off the line by Connah's Quay No 3 Steve Hopkins. After ten minutes of the
second period the visitors came back into the game with some good play but
Town soon regained the advantage when an excellent cross to the back post saw
Wayne Jones' header, from point blank range, well saved off the line on 63'. Town kept up the pressure
and a minute later Craig Hutchinson was adjudged to have handled the ball in
the area. Ryan Nicholls made no mistake from the penalty spot. He has now
scored in both his games since returning from injury. Although Town were in
control Connah's Quay were still capable of mounting some dangerous attacks.
On 76' Kevin Davies put through Stuart Rain whose effort went wide. But it
was Fitgerald's one handed save on 86' from a thundering shot by Stuart Rain
that denied the visitors one of their best scoring chances of the game. To complete Connah's
Quay's miserable afternoon Steve Williams who had come on for Meredith on 84'
showed his strength of shot with an excellent strike from a free kick on the
edge of the box on 90' to make it 3 - 0 to Town and take them to second spot
in the League. Town - Fitgerald, Rees,

Llanelli AFC 1 Tonight's game had
everything - two good teams, some excellent football, a good crowd and a
floodlight failure - Malaysians obviously betting on the outcome of the game.
But the 45' sending off Llanelli's Chris Watkins for violent play by referee
Neil Morgan proved too much of a handicap for the visitors as 'Town' romped
home by 5 goals to 1 In a splendid first half
punctuated by some excellent passing movements the 'Reds' took the lead after
28' when a corner kick to the far post was misjudged by keeper Rob Fitzgerald
and Mark Parfett forced the ball home to the delight of a large contingent of
Llanelli supporters. Town hit back
immediately. Dean Rossiter with a magnificent drive from 35 yards gave the
Llanelli 17 year old keeper no chance. The large crowd (618) were enjoying a
good game and six minutes later Craig Evans made it 2-1. Following some good
Town pressure Evans hit another powerful drive past Hidle to give 'Town' the
lead at the break. There had been numerous
chances for both sides during the first half. Hidle made some excellent saves
and Llanelli had a golden chance to equalise just before the break when Jamie
Bowen saw his shot go right across the open goalmouth with no one there to
slot it home. Following the break a
period of intense pressure by the 'Reds' could well have brought the
equaliser. They had several chances on goal. Andy Hill saw his shot hit the
post following disarray in the Carmarthen goalmouth on 50' and with Jamie
Bowen and Nicky Palmer causing problems the game was finely balanced.
Llanelli were caught on the break on 73' when Siôn Meredith broke free
following a slip by Andy Hill to give substitute Cerison Davies, who had
literally only just come on to the field, a nice square pass to chip Hidle
for the third goal. With Dean Rossiter having
an excellent game in the middle of the field, Gavin Rees and Wayne Jones
pushing forward and Meredith and Nichols causing problems up front the
Llanelli defence began to tire and look a little ragged. Two fine goals in the
final 10 minutes by Rossiter and again by Davies sealed a fine win for Town. Tomi's superb goal in the
Rhayader match will have two excellent contenders from tonight's match for
the Goal of the Month award. The referee Neil Morgan let the game flow and
generally had a good agame. Town - Fitgerald, Rees,
Jones, Thomas, O'Brien, Barnhouse, Walker, Rossiter, Nicholls, Meredith,
Evans. Subs ; Davies (Evans 71') Stephen Evans (Rees 87') & Stephen
Williams (Nicholls 82') Llanelli - Hidle, Hill,
Jones, Davies, Graham, Thomas, Palmer, Parfitt, Watkins, Bowen &
Dickeson. Subs Scott Evans Jamie Davies (Hill 74') Hughes. _________________________________________________________________________________ Flexsys Cefn Druids 3
Carmarthen Town 4 With newcomer Jeff Aspell
making his debut for Carmarthen Town and showing some good touches Town had
the best possible start when Gareth Barton headed home after 2' from a
Stephen Evans cross. Carmarthen continued to
pressurise the home defence when an excellent cross from Wyn Jones found Neil
O'Brien in the box but his effort was cleared off the line. Again following
good work by Stephen Evans, whose chip on goal hit the Druids' crossbar, Wyn
Thomas drove resulting rebound into the back of the Druids' net on 8'. With their tails up Town
further increased the lead after 26' with an individual effort by midfielder
Craig Evans who, having carried the ball up-field, hit home from 25 yards
out. Town then rested on their
laurels and allowed Druids back into the game. Fitzgerald made a great save
from Tim Allen but Druids reduced the arrears after 33' when Simon Richards
carried the ball 30 yards unchallenged and shot from 35yards out to find the
top corner of Town's goal giving Fitzgerald no chance. Within 3' and with Town's
defence retreating Tim Allen drove home for Druids with the aid of a slight
deflection. half time score 3-2 to Carmarthen. The second half was
evenly balanced and full of excitement as both keepers were in constant
action. A lapse in Town's defence allowed Allen to jink his way up the touch
line and from the resulting pass James Pierce equalised for Druids on 68'. Seven minutes from time,
however, with Druids failing to clear Town pressure the ball fell to Siôn
Meredith who drove past Edwards from close range to give Town their first
League victory of the season. _________________________________________________________________________________ |
