TOWN AWARDED LICENCES

Town has been successful in gaining both a FAW domestic and an UEFA licence. Eight other Welsh Premier clubs, Aberystwyth, Airbus, Bangor, Haverfordwest, Newtown, Port Talbot, Prestatyn and The New Saints were also successful in gaining both Domestic and UEFA licences.

Chairman Gareth O Jones told 'Y Dre ar Y We', "It's very pleasing that once again we have been awarded both licences at the first attempt. It is the culmination of a great deal of hard work and shows that the club is committed to competing at the highest level possible".

The Domestic Licence is a pre-requisite for participation in the Welsh Premier League whilst the UEFA licence will enable clubs to take part in either the Champions League or Europa League if they qualify. The UEFA Licence is not only essential for nomination to European competition, but also to be admitted into the inaugural Welsh Premier League Play-Offs for the final Europa League place.

Of the feeder league aspirants only Huws Gray Alliance outfit Llandudno were successful in gaining a domestic licence. Bala Town, Llanelli and Neath FC, as well as promotion hopefuls GAP Connah's Quay, Cefn Druids, Flint Town Utd, Afan Lido, Barry Town and Bridgend Town have the option to appeal against the decision not to grant them a Domestic licence.

Appeals regarding the Domestic licence will be heard by an independent panel on Thursday 28th April 2011 whilst Llanelli AFC and Neath FC both have ten days to appeal against the UEFA licence decision with the Appeals Body meeting on Thursday 28th April 2011.

Swans Forum LineupSWANS FORUM A SUCCESS

Executive board member Paul Ashley Jones declared the Swansea City Fans Forum held at Carmarthen Town's Richmond Park Community Centre a resounding success.

He told Y Dre ar Y We "The turnout was fantastic and I know that the Swansea City Supporters Trust Board, the manager and both players were very impressed with the set up and thoroughly enjoyed the evening."

The evening started with a formal question and answer session followed by the opportunity to meet Brendan Rogers together with players Alan Tate and Stephen Dobbie. Fans also had the opportunity to take photographs and obtain autographs. A good evening all round. Photo: (L to R) Alan Tate, Brenden Rogers, Stephen Dobbie, Paul Ashley Jones. DAZZA DEFECTS DOWN UNDER

Darren Griffiths is now the second Town player to ply his trade 'down under'. Darren is currently undertaking pre-season with Victoria Football Federation outfit Moreland City FC and has already found the net for his new club.

Prior to his move to Melbourne Darren made 12(+7) appearances and scored 2 goals for the Richmond Park outfit.

200th. WIN FOR TOWN. FIRST WIN FOR SMUDGER

With Town notching up their 200th. Welsh Premier League win at Newtown, former Town midfielder Neil Smothers celebrated his debut for Queensland State League outfit Southern Cross with a 4-2 win against Rockhampton outfit Capricorn Cougars.

And in Queensland’s monsoonal type weather Smothers felt it was like playing at home. He told Y Dre ar Y We, “The win was a really good start to the season. It was great to play a full 90 minutes. But really it was like playing back home with the rain hammering down. The only difference being the temperature was about 25 degrees!!!”.

Southern Cross badgeSMUDGER SIGNS FOR SOUTHERN CROSS

Town's travelling mid-fielder Neil Smothers has signed Southern Cross in the Hyundai Queensland State League. Southern Cross is a newly formed Brisbane based outfit and with the HQSL expanding to ten teams this season Southern Cross is one of the two new teams accepted into the league.

International clearance permitting Smudger is hopeful of being included in the squad to face Rockhampton's Capricorn Cougars in Saturday's league opener And, despite being a new outfit, Southern Cross have already created an impression on the rest of the league by winning the pre-season Clem

Jones Shield at Meakin Park.(Update - Southern Cross won 4-2 against Capricorn Cougars).

Christian Roberts SRtRC10.02.11 SHOW RACISM THE RED CARD DAY

Carmarthen Town AFC’s new Community Centre was the venue for a very successful Show Racism the Red Card day on Thursday.

Campaign worker Jason Webber together with Education Coordinator Simon Richards and former football league player Christian Roberts were joined by pupils from Ysgol Ponthenri and Ysgol Brynconin for a stimulating and thought provoking day.

Following a morning session of presentations and activities the afternoon session allowed pupils to view the SRtRC video. In a final session Town keeper Shane Earp and coach Peter Fearn joined Christian for a session of questions and answers where the pupils showed their understanding of the issues surrounding racism with some very interesting and perceptive questions.

BRIERS SIGNS FOR ABERAMAN

Town defender Bobby Briers has been released to sign for Welsh League outfit Aberaman Athletic. With Gary Bansor returning to Port Talbot Briers is the second defender to leave Richmond in recent weeks.

LIAM HANCOCK BACK AT RICHMOND

Town Chairman Gareth Jones has confirmed the signing - on loan, of defender Liam Hancock from Neath FC. Liam spent three seasons at
Richmond between 2006-09 and was a member of the squad that played SK Brann in the Europa Cup in 2007 before moving back to Neath last season. Welcome back Liam.

TOWN SIGN DEFENDER SHEEHAN

Town manager Tomi Morgan has signed Daniel Sheehan from Salisbury City. Sheehan is a product of Swansea City's youth set and won a first year professional contract for the 2009-10 season but was released at the end of the season before signing for the 'Whites'.

A mobile defender Sheehan will be joining up with former Swans teammate Kieran Howard at Richmond Park and will be available for Town's trip to Maes Tegid on Tuesday evening.

POCKETT SIGNS FOR TOWN

Neath's Stephen Pockett has signed on-loan with Town until the end of the season. Pockett is an uncompromising, industrious and experienced midfielder and will add some steel to Town's midfield. Having had three seasons with Port Talbo he was a member of Skewen's Championship winning side in 2003/04. A former Cardiff City youngster and capped at Wales Youth level he is now in his fourth season with Neath having made 88 (+ 22) Welsh Premier appearances and scoring eight goals.

TOMI STRENGTHENS SQUAD

Town manager Tomi Morgan has bolstered his squad with the signings of midfielder Nicky Palmer and young forward Steffan Williams. Williams is a product of the Bridge Meadow Academy and having made nineteen starts last season has made only substitute appearances this year before being released from his contract. A member of last season's Welsh Schoolboy side Steffan has skill and pace.

Town also welcome back former Richmond favourite Nicky Palmer who has 229 (+37) Welsh Premier appearances and 28 goals to his name. Following his move to Port Talbot in the summer Palmer has not figured at all at the Gen Quip Stadium. Prior to switching Palmer enjoyed three seasons at Richmond and was a member of the squad that took on SK Brann in the Europa Cup.

RICHARD HUGHES BACK IN OLD GOLD

Town welcome back defender Richard Hughes following a period of injury and recuperation. Richard unfortunately broke his ankle at the end of last season and following a couple of months with Pembrokeshire outfit Pennar Robins is back at Richmond Park. A regular for the last three seasons the uncompromising right back will give manager Tomi Morgan some additional defensive options.

24.12.10 REDS v TOWN - POSTPONED

Despite some mid-week optimism from the Reds and a call for volunteers to clear the Stebonheath pitch in preparation for the Boxing Day derby the game has now been postponed. Referee Mark Whitby looked at the pitch on Friday and found the surface to be frozen solid.

The game will now, hopefully, be re-scheduled for a mid week date.

21.12.10 REDS HOPEFUL FOR BOXING DAY & LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS

Having anticipated a postponement of Boxing Day's game the Reds are now more hopeful that the fixture will be playable and have asked for volunteers to help clear the snow on the Stebonheath pitch on Sunday morning. After an inspection early on Tuesday, the pitch underneath the snow covering was found to be soft and playable and acting as insulation in keeping the pitch away from the frost. Currently very low overnight temperatures (-6 / -7) are forecast in the Llanelli area for the remainder of the week.

Meanwhile Welsh Premier secretary John Deakin is proposing a delay in the mid-season split until the first week in February to enable the current fixture backlog to be cleared. One of the suggestions is that if the Boxing Day games are lost on block, as Dekin believes is likely to be the case, all of the derby matches can then be played on Saturday 5th February 2011, which would be the last games before the split. This would allow other outstanding fixtures to be played around the weekend of the proposed Loosemores Cup Final on Saturday 22nd January and, for those not involved in the Welsh Cup, the following weekend will also be available.

20.12.10 HAVERFORDWEST COUNTY v CARMARTHEN TOWN - POSTPONED

For the second time Town's visit to Haverfordwest County has fallen to the weather. With the New Bridge Meadow surface frozen and traveling conditions hazardous the fixture has been postponed.

The game will now be played on Wednesday 29th. December 2010. KO 7.30 pm.

PRESTATYN TOWN v CARMARTHEN TOWN - GAME OFF

Following a second night of heavy snow across Wales Town's game against Prestatyn has been postponed following an early morning pitch inspection by referee Any Harms. In reality, given the severe weather warnings, it was an impossible journey for Town and for referee Kevin Morgan and his South Wales based officials. Broadcasters S4C were also struggling to move equipment to Bastion Gardens in what Police described as hazardous driving conditions.

With Tuesday night's rearranged game against Haverfordwest now also a doubt the fixture schedule is becoming very congested with few options left to rearrange games before the scheduled split in the season in January.

GOLDEN GOAL

Following the postponement of The New Saints game the Golden Goal competition was carried over to Saturday's Newtown game. The first goal was timed at 76m 30s. The winner was one of the Beulah, Newcastle Emlyn supporters.

03.11.10 BLUEBIRDS v TOWN - OFF

Despite a slight thaw in the last couple of days tonight's game at the The New Bridge Meadow against Haverfordwest County has been postponed due to the frozen pitch.

Official's looked at the pitch at midday but with the overnight temperatures plummeting there was little prospect of a thaw and there was no way that the game could going ahead as scheduled. To cap it all the Bluebirds have also experienced some burst pipes which has added to their difficulties.

It has been agreed that the game will be re scheduled for Tuesday the 21st of December 2010. Town will next be in action when they host Newtown AFC at Richmond Park on Saturday the 11th. December 2010. KO 2.30 pm.

01.12.10 CLUBS HOPING FOR A THAW

Weather permitting Town are due to travel to The New Bridge Meadow on Friday night (03.12.10) to take on bottom placed Haverfordwest County. Following the departure of Derek Brazil the Bluebirds have recently appointed Gavin Chesterfield as their new manager . The 32-year old joins the Bluebirds from Barry Town and takes up his first job in the Welsh Premier League.

Friday night's game will be Chesterfields’ first in charge as Manager at The New Bridge Meadow. Whilst the Bluebirds will be hoping that he makes an immediate impact Town will be looking to kick off another successful run at the Pembrokeshire ground following last year's first defeat after a seven season unbeaten run. With the Bridge Meadow surface probably one of the best in the League both clubs will be hoping that the forecast rise in temperature at the end of the week will enable the game to be staged.

27.11.10 RICHMOND PARK SNOWED UNDER

Following very heavy snow in the area on Friday and freezing overnight temperatures Town's Saturday game against Champions TNS was postponed.

Richmond Park was under a 3 to 4 inch covering of snow and with the surface underneath also frozen the pitch was deemed unplayable following a 8.30 inspection on Saturday morning.

With the walkways and parking areas around Richmond also frozen hard and forecasts predicting only +1 temperatures areas around the ground were quite dangerous with little prospect of a thaw.

20.11.10 CAPTAIN DAD

It was not all gloom and doom for Town on Saturday. As City celebrated a record that equals Reading's 1985/86 run Town's bleary eyed and sleep deprived captain Dale Griffiths and his partner Tayzaa celebrated the arrival of their daughter Ruby Grace in the early hours of the morning. Congratulations and best wishes from all at the club.

TOMI NAMED MANAGER of the MONTH

Congratulations to Town manager Tomi Morgan who has been named Welsh Premier manager of the month for October after the Old Gold's recent climb up the table culminated in a 4-2 away win at Airbus. During the month, Tomi's Richmond Park outfit enjoyed home wins against Prestatyn and Bala Town as well as a 2-2 away draw at Aberystwyth's Park Avenue.

Virginia Linnell, Manager of Principality Building Society in Carmarthen said: “We were delighted to see the recent upturn in results for Carmarthen Town and credit for this must go to Manager of the Month for October, Tomi Morgan.

Following some hard fought results against difficult opposition, Carmarthen have now established themselves as serious contenders for a place in the Championship Conference come January. We sincerely hope that Tomi and his men can continue their fine run of form and move themselves even further up the table.”

TOWN LIVE OVER FESTIVE SEASON

S4/C have confirmed their live television schedule of Welsh Premier matches up to New Years Day 2011 and Town will feature in two of the games.

Firstly Town's game away at Bastion Gardens against Prestatyn Town is the selected game on the Saturday before Christmas (18.12.10). And the first live match of the New Year will also feature Tomi Morgan's Old Gold, as Town host Llanelli at Richmond Park in the second of the festive derbies.

Latham Park will get their second live transmission of the season when the Robins host Andy Legg's Llanelli on the first Saturday in December (04.12.10). The following week Aberystwyth Town will get their first live game of the season when the Seasiders host current league leaders Bangor City in a game that has been brought forward from the original Sunday date.

KEY SPONSORS VITAL FOR CLUB SUCCESS

With much discussion regarding the switching of League fixtures away from the traditional Saturday afternoon it is timely to focus on the fact that it is the support of many local businesses that enables clubs such as Town to function in the top flight of Welsh football. Sponsorship today is a vital aspect of the club's activities and in Carmarthen Town's experience this essential support would not be available for Sunday games.

Town operates a range of sponsorship packages and recently the club was pleased to welcome Dyfig Dalziel and Specsavers to the club's hospitality suite for Town's match day against Bala Town.
Meet the sponsors ...

Club chairman Gareth Jones said: “All of us at Carmarthen Town are always delighted to welcome key sponsors who do so much to support us here at Richmond Park. The support of all principal sponsors is highly-valued and without their contributions Carmarthen Town would not be such a success story.”

We would also like to take this opportunity of reminding other businesses that there is a place for them in the growing ‘family’ at Richmond Park. We are happy to sit down and discuss a number of sponsorship packages with interested businesses. Anyone who is interested should ring Vice Chairman Robert Lloyd on 07777 683637.”

WESH CUP - TOWN DRAW GOYTRE UNITED

Town will travel to Glanhafod Park to take on Welsh League outfit Goytre United in the third round of the Welsh Cup. Goytre went into the hat for 3rd. Round draw following a convincing 3 -0 win over Fleur de Lys, with Jason Thorn, Mark Pritchard and Richard French the scorers. Goytre are currently fourth in Division 1, one point behind leaders Bridgend Town, and will prove formidable opposition for Town. Ties to be played on or before Saturday 6th. November 2010.

17.09.10 CARMARTHEN TOWN 2 HAVERFORDWEST COUNTY 2

With both clubs on equal points at the lower end of the table Neil Thomas' 88th. minute strike looked to have won the tie for the Bluebirds. But with Town showing considerable character to maintain a late surge in search of an equaliser it was Andy Evans' left footed strike in the third minute of injury time that gained Town a share of the spoils, the first home point of the season.

Manager Tomi Morgan said, "It was a great effort to come back as we did against a strong side. Considering last week's result as well I thought it showed considerable charecter and spirit from the boys".

"When they scored with a couple of minutes left you thought that was it. I've been in management a few years now and I think tonight's goal was about the latest equaliser I've ever experienced".

Morgan was adamant that Town deserved some reward for their effort. "Over the ninty minutes I thought we deserved something from the game. We certainly didn't deserve to lose. We're a very young side with a lot to learn. Yes we do take the wrong options sometimes but hopefully we are developing and learning and tonight I could not fault their effort".

With relatively few adjustments to the line ups Morgan showed faith in his young squad, following last week's drubbing, by naming an unchanged squad. And in a bright and finely balanced opening Danny Thomas and Tom Ramasut combined well to open up Town's defence on eight minutes and Ramasut was again the provider minutes later with Lee Hudgel blasting over.

Sacha Walters spearheaded Town's thrust with some strong runs and an interesting mid-field tussle developed with Geraint Passmore influential for Town and Neil Thomas playing wide and clever in possession for the visitors. But it was the Bluebirds who broke the deadlock on 26 minutes with Jack Christopher flicking on cleverly for Danny Thomas to slot the ball under keeper Mike Lewis in a one-on-one.

Following the half hour Thomas again broke the cover but without reward and with Walters penetrating the Bluebirds defence and Darran Griffiths persistent up front there was action at both ends. Then with three minutes of the half remaining Town levelled in some style. A flowing move saw Griffith's get to the by-line to cross in superbly for Nick Harrhy to power home with a flying header.

Following the break Neil Thomas' came close to putting the visitors ahead for the second time with a couple of dangerous headers. But with both sides having periods of dominance it took a double save from Lee Idzi to deny Harrhy and then Griffiths as Town flooded the Bluebirds penalty area. On the hour, with Griffiths winning posession, Walters' delivery just lacked a final touch.

Mark Dodds' header back into Town's box following Mattie Collins' free kick needed some desperate defending before Chris O'Sullivan replaced Ramasut for the Bluebirds and Neil Thomas took up a more pivotal role, his 73rd minute header flashing just wide of the mark. At the other end Walters did well to get behind the visiting defence only for Griffiths to dig his shot wide with a quarter hour remaining.

But with Haverfordwest dominating Christopher's dipping header was touched over by Lewis before Thomas finally put Haverfordwest ahead. With Town struggling to clear a free kick from the edge of the box the experienced midfielder netted a seeming winner from ten yards with two minutes remaining.

With the Fourth Official signalling four minutes of added time Town pushed everyone forward. Lee Phillips pumped in a series of balls and Craig Frater chased everything. Lewis cleared up field and with Kieran Howard helping the ball on with a neat lob the Bluebirds appealing the offside. But with Evans striking low beyond Idzi with literally the last kick of the game Town had some reward for their considerable spirit and character.

FRIDAY NIGHT DERBIES

There will be two big matches at Richmond Park on Friday night. Carmarthen Town kick-off their Welsh Premier League match against Haverfordwest County at 7.30pm and at half-time two local primary schools go head-to-head in a junior primary school match on the pitch.

The new initiative at Richmond is designed to give youngsters first-hand experience of playing on the Welsh Premier ground and is part of Town's Community Programme which is sponsored by EMC Services - Electrical Contractors.

“Teams from Richmond Park School and St Mary’s School will be special guests of Carmarthen Town on Friday night,” said Town vice-chairman Robert Lloyd. “The local ‘derby’ against Haverfordwest is always keenly contested and is a must-win match for both teams, so there is sure to be a buzz around the ground on Friday night.

“This year, we are planning to give as many youngsters as a taste of what the big match experience is like. They will get a pep-talk from manager Tomi Morgan and meet some of Town’s players".

The highlight of the evening for the youngsters will be running out on the Richmond Park pitch at half-time for a mini six-a-side match. And whilst Richmond Park and St Mary’s will be the first two teams taking part in this new venture, Carmarthen Town AFC is keen to hear from other schools who want to take part in this exciting new initiative.

S
chools interested in taking part in the initiative can contact Town's schools liaison officer Phil Grice on 01267 235073 or Paul Ashley-Jones, the head of Town's community programme, on 07775 820864.

In cooperation with the Carmarthen Journal Carmarthen Town AFC is delighted to offer a special voucher for Friday night’s game against Haverfordwest – admission for just £3 for an adult and a child.
See Journal for voucher.
KEVIN DAVIES SIDELINED

All at Carmarthen Town wish defender Kevin Davies a speedy recovery following recent surgery. Kevin was a spectator at Town's win at Port Talbot on Friday night and was looking forward to getting back into action following suspension. It's reported that Kevin could be out of action for four to six weeks.

TOWN MAKE DEADLINE DAY SIGNINGS

Town have signed Llanelli youngster Antonio Facciuto (Photo) . The former Wales Schools U16 and Cardiff City Youth Cup player was included in Tomi Morgan's squad for Tuesday night's Loosemore's Cup tie.

Also signed are Bobby Briers and Calvin Davies. Briers is a product of Swansea City's Centre of Excellence who joined Haverfordwest in 2006 before moving to Welsh League outfit Bridgend Town in 2010.

Davies is an experienced striker who had four seasons at Welshpool Town. With 111 (+14) appearances in the Welsh Premier and 54 goals to his name Davies has had time at Flexsys Cefn Druids and Caernarfon as well as a season at Colwyn Bay in the Unibond League.

THOMAS, HICKS AND DAVIES SCOOP AWARDS

At a very successful presentation evening held at the club’s Richmond Park Community Centre defender Chris Thomas was named as the club’s player of the year and Tim Hicks took the Supporter’s Player of the Season Award. The award for Clubman of the Year went to Kieran Davies, one of the club’s young coaches, for his outstanding work with the club’s Academy.

Carmarthen Town’s Head of Youth Emlyn Schiavone was quick to praise his young coach. “Kieran is a committed, enthusiastic and forward thinking coach. He has worked hard to identify and recruit some of the better players in West Wales. Kieran has a very good rapport with the youngsters at the club and is currently undertaking his UEFA C licence. He’s a credit to himself and the club". Davies is currently a Sports science student at Coleg Sir Gâr.

With Tim Hicks named the fans’ favourite manager Deryn Brace praised his front man for his all round contribution to the squad during the season. “The award is richly deserved as Tim has had a fantastic season all round and developed really well”.

“In all honesty he struggled a bit in pre season but all of a sudden it came right for him and he didn’t look back. Without his play and his goals - and Danny Thomas’ goals, we would really be in the mire. He has an obvious honesty about him and relishes the challenge. He’s a player that never gives up and the supporters saw that and appreciate it. I’m pleased for him”.

FOWLER, HUGHES & THOMAS MOVE ON

Following a move that will see Paul Fowler and Craig Hughes ply their trade at the Gnoll next season Town Chairman Gareth O Jones told 'Y Dre ar Y We',

“We are disappointed to see both Paul and Craig leave the club. Paul Fowler has been an influential feature of Town’s midfield since he signed from Bridgend Street . He quickly got to grips with the Welsh Premier League and enjoyed European football with the club. His strong and skilful play was a joy to watch and his never-say-die attitude clearly influenced his fellow players. It was very pleasing that he received international recognition whilst at Richmond Park.

Jones added, “Although Craig did not have a prolific season goal wise he was a very influential player within the squad but due to injuries at the start of the season he was unable to contribute as he would have wanted to the team. I am sure that he will regain his goal scoring form but hopefully not against Town!

“I’d like to thank both the players for their professionalism while in discussions with Neath FC and best wishes for the future”.

Manager Deryn Brace added, “In all fairness this is a move that both players felt, at this stage of their careers, they could not turn down. Obviously it’s disappointing to lose three big assets but it does set up a challenge for those coming in.

Having won the Club’s Player of the Year Award defender Chris Thomas has also made a decision to move away from Richmond to neighbouring Llanelli AFC. Brace said, “Chris has decided to leave Carmarthen for the second time as he felt that he had a better chance of playing at a higher standard by moving to Llanelli. Yes we are sorry to see him go but we wish him well for the future.
JOINT CHAIRMEN

Following Monday night’s Annual General Meeting of the club Jeff Thomas and club secretary Gareth O Jones have agreed an interim period of joint Chairmanship. Jeff Thomas has signalled for some time his intention to step down as Chairman but has agreed to stay on for a limited period and will focus on the commercial and business aspects of the club. G O Jones on the other hand will will focus on the football side of the organisation and chair the Executive Committee.

However the club will still look to attract a new Chairman who will bring in fresh enthusiasm to Carmarthen Town Football Club as it enters into an exciting new period in it's history. Anyone who wishes to express an interest in taking over as chairman of Carmarthen Town AFC is asked to contact vice-chairman Robert Lloyd for an informal chat on 0777 683637, Jeff Thomas on 01267 222851 or 07813 69774 or Gareth Jones on 07814 262656 or 01267 233359.

In a further move Paul Anthony Jones, was has been responsible for the Club Shop and the Supporters’ Association, was elected to the club’s Executive Committee.
TOWN AWARDED DOMESTIC & UEFA CLUB LICENCE

Carmarthen Town has been awarded a Domestic and UEFA club licence. An independent panel meeting on Friday awarded eight Welsh Premier clubs the FAW Domestic Club Licence. Nine clubs have been awarded a UEFA licence.

Club Chairman Jeff Thomas felt it ws a credit to all the successful clubs. "The gaining of a Domestic Licence and an UEFA Licence is a credit to all of the successful clubs and testimony to the sides who are, in the main, conducted by volunteers, whose service to Welsh Football, not just to their own clubs should not be underestimated.

It is now hoped that the FAW will not just continue but also enhance their financial support for the Welsh Premier League. Carmarthen Town would also wish to place on record their sincere thanks to the FAW Licensing team for their professionalism during the whole process."

The Domestic licence is a a pre-requisite for next season's restructured Welsh Premiership but clubs also have to qualify on sporting merit through their League position. It is imperative therefore that Town gets into a top ten position in order to qualify for next season's WPL.

Domestic licences have been awarded to Aberystwyth Town, Carmarthen Town, Haverfordwest County, Llanelli, Neath, Newtown, Prestatyn Town and The New Saints.

TOWN LOOKING FOR NEW SIGNINGS

Carmarthen Town Football Club is keen to make new signings during the January transfer window as it shapes up for one of the biggest challenges in its history.

Next season, qualification for the new league structure will see clubs faced with the possibility of 10 extra fixtures as the Welsh Premier League streamlines to just 12 teams with current plans for clubs to play each other four times.

With Town determined to be one of the top flight teams it will make a big difference to the workload of the club's staff, all of whom - from the groundsman to the chairman and his executive committee - are volunteers.

The appeal from the club therefore is that you might not be a speedy winger, a bustling centre forward or an agile shot-stopping keeper but you could still play for the 'team' by giving up a few hours a week as a volunteer at Richmond Park.

Chairman Jeff Thomas (above) said: "People think the work starts and ends with a 90-minute game on a Saturday. But that couldn't be further from the truth. We are a community club based in the heart of Carmarthen and the first team is really just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what we do.

"This new-look league is a whole new ball game which is why we are very keen to recruit more volunteers to the cause.

"We are not looking for heroes - although heroes will be warmly welcomed! - but we do need several new 'signings' to help us take the club forward.

"There's plenty of work to do, says Jeff, helping to run the academy teams for youngsters of all ages, the Ladies' team, the reserves as well as the first team. There is also lots of painting and maintenance, paperwork and promotion work to be done; and the club needs more stewards, programme sellers, ticket sellers and ball boys.

But, he emphasised, volunteers can do as little or as much as they can manage and they will not get bogged down in committee meetings and red tape.

Added Jeff: "Whatever you are good at or fancy having a go at, why not just pitch in and help."

12.12.09 MATTIE'S BACK IN TOWN!

Deryn Brace has appointed former Town favourite Mattie Davies as his assistant manager. Mattie first joined Town in 04-05 and played at various times through until 07-08 when he left for Ton Pentre. A favourite with both the fans and players Mattie was a member of Town's European squad in Finland.

Mattie joins Town from Welsh League outfit Aberaman Athletic. Having been a member of last season's championship winning side Mattie took over the managerial reins this season. In a statement the club said, " Mattie goes with our blessing and we thank him for his contribution to the club over the past two seasons both as a player in the championship winning team of last season and as manager this season, he has done the club and himself proud and Carmarthen have got a good guy and a great prospect in the management team".

Town manager Deryn Brace welcomed Mattie to the club.

“Mattie will give us fresh impetus. He’s infectious in everything he does. He loves football and he knows Welsh football inside out. Having spoken to him he’s jumped at the opportunity of coming on board and he’s relishing the challenge that we’re squaring up to at the moment.

“Yes Mattie’s fresh into this side of things but he’s managed Aberaman for the last six months. He took over at a difficult time and done a fantastic job there; so he’s has that experience. I’m sure any manager will say that they don’t know everything so we’ll be a team and we’re looking forward to working with one another.

Davies told 'Y Dre ar Y We':

“Town is a big club and having played at Richmond and got to know the committee and fans it’s a wonderful opportunity to be a part of Carmarthen Town for the rest of the season and hopefully into the future.

“With Deryn it will be an opportunity to bounce and share ideas. I definitely feel I have some fresh ideas to bring to the squad and hopefully we’ll see ourselves moving up the league table. They’re a quality bunch of boys, a nice bunch of boys, all very good players and I’d like to think we can improve a lot on the position we are in currently.

“Off the pitch its really a case of trying to bring some togetherness, camaraderie, bit of team spirit and get the boys playing for each other. I can appreciate that Deryn did not want to rush into any rash decisions after Mark's ’s departure. But I think it goes without saying that any club in the Welsh Premier needs a management team and like I said I’m really glad that Deryn’s given me the opportunity and I think we can work really well together.

MARK AIZLEWOOD RESIGNS AS TOWN COACH

Due to increasing business commitments Mark Aizlewood has resigned as Carmarthen Town’s coach. Aizlewood has been an influential figure at Richmond Park over recent years that has seen Town win the League Cup, Welsh Cup and make ten appearances in European competition.

Carmarthen Town Chairman Jeff Thomas told 'Y Dre ar Y We', “Mark’s resignation will undoubtedly be met with great disappointment within the club. Whilst it was not totally unexpected given his intense business commitments you sometimes tend to think that the unthinkable will not happen”.

“However it has and Mark has left a legacy that he can be proud of. We have an excellent squad which I’m confident will do well this season and Mark has been part of a process over the past five years which has led to the club’s unprecedented success in terms of winning the League Cup, the Welsh Cup, ten European appearances and last season a great top four finish in the League”.

“He has also driven forward many community initiatives, which has heightened our credibility within the town and surrounding districts culminating in the recent opening of our state of the art community centre. There is little more that can be said about the man’s talent and contribution to Carmarthen Town football club”.

Aizlewood outlined that his increasing commitments to his expanding business that provides vocational courses to the education sector had necessitated his resignation. “I have been at the club for over five years and given that I live two hours away the commitment of travelling two or three times a week has been a big burden. Whilst I was happy to do that for five years the business that I’ve recently started has turned into a multi million pound concern and I unfortunately just do not have the time to devote to Carmarthen Town to do the job to the best of my ability. I didn’t want to be in a position where my commitment, my attitude, my application to the club was anything less than a hundred per cent”.

“Five years ago when I was at a very low ebb in my life Carmarthen Town football club was fantastic to me. The people connected with the club from top to bottom have been absolutely wonderful. It’s not for me to say, but perhaps in that period of time I would like to think that I’ve also been OK for Carmarthen”.

“Maybe some people will say that the time to have done it was at the end of last season but I wanted to guide the club through pre-season. I wanted to oversee with Deryn the signing of some quality players to ensure that when I did leave the continuity in the short term would be there.

"When you look at it logically and look at everything after five years at the football club there was never really going to be a right time to leave. Last season we finished fourth which, in the current climate, is absolutely the best achievement, even inluding the European games, I’ve had as a coach because you're up against some big budgets".

“So its nothing to do with results its purely because as a professional I have the ultimate respect for Jeff and the club but my work commitments dictated that I'm not able to do the job to the best of my ability and I didn’t want to short change anybody”.

“As I’ve said people at Carmarthen have been wonderful to me through some very difficult times in my personal life hopefully I’ve been OK for the club and its been a good partnership. I’m just glad its ended on an amicable, friendly, lovely note. I’ve spent a considerable amount of time at Richmond Park and hopefully there is a legacy there. Maybe its time for somebody else to take that forward on and off the field”
.

Town manager Deryn Brace who has worked closely with Aizlewood over the last two years has great respect for his coaching colleague.

"Aize has been a huge part of what we do here at the club and obviously its going to be strange without him especially his reliability. Not only is his knowledge second to none his commitment and his standards are exemplary .

"Obviously it is a loss but what we have to do is carry on the quality work Aize has put in place. We will not be going in a different direction because its unnecessary. What we need to do carry it on and build on it".

"On a personal level Aize’s honesty comes without saying. The two years that I’ve had working along side him has opened my eyes as to how to prepare, implement and do a lot of things within the game. I’d go as far as to say that it has been my biggest advantage in football to work alongside Mark Aizlewood. It’s been quite an astonishing experience".

Chairman Jeff Thomas outlined that Mark Aizlewood will not be completely lost to Carmarthen Town as he will continue as the club’s Academy director and will always be on hand for advice on a range of matters within the club.
