24.03.08 Town travel to Port Talbot on Friday night and manager Deryn Brace will be looking for a positive outcome as Town look to ensure a fourth spot finish to this year's League campaign.

Despite a finely balanced and open game the Richmond Park meeting between the two sides in November ended in a goalless draw with coach Mark Aizlewood conceding the outcome of Nicky Tucker's first game in charge of the Steelmen to be a fair result. "Yes we were looking for three points but the game could have gone either way and sometimes over a season you must’t underestimate the value of a home point in a game like that because we could have lost it".

Brace's side, currently three points ahead of the Steelmen having played one game more, will be looking for their first win at the Remax since 2002 as they look to emulate their 05-06 finish. But with teams in the lower reaches of the League having cost Town points this season Brace will also be hoping that his side finds a finishing flourish in the final two outings against Porthmadog and CQN. KO at the Remax 7.30 pm.

22.03.04 DAN THE MAN

With a brace of goals against Bangor City striker Danny Thomas has equalled Richard Parker's long standing record for League goals in a season. Danny has also topped Ryan Nicholls' goal total with 35 strikes from 77 + 11 apps compared to Nicholls' 34 strikes from 101+7 apps.

With Tim Hicks close on Danny's heels(15 goals) and Jamal Easter also eying a slice of the action Town are heading for their best ever goal tally before the end of the season.

22.03.08 ROB FULTON

Everyone at Carmarthen Town football club is saddened at the sudden death of Rob Fulton who's funeral took place on Saturday. Rob and his wife Val will be known to all as the host and hostess of Town's Vice Presidents Lounge which Rob, of course, was instrumental in setting up. A minute silence before the game with Bangor was observed as a mark of respect.

A very proud Scotsman Rob was a keen sportsman. A former Carmarthen Harrier and competative squash player Rob was a huge Rangers fan but had supported Carmarthen Town in various ways over many years for which the club is extremely grateful. We will miss his company, especially on away trips, and extend our sympathy to his family and friends in their sad loss.

15.03.08 Caersws FC 1 Carmarthen Town 2

Aizes' angle on the game...

"We needed a result, that’s what it was about today. After our disappointment against Aberystwyth we needed three points, we got them and we’ll take some confidence from that and move on to the Bangor game."

"We played some decent football at times in very difficult conditions but I think that we made hard work of it at times. "

"A decent effort by the players on a very, very difficult pitch to defend on, attack on or to do anything football wise on. But before the game you’d settle for three points and that’s what we got. "

"It was pleasing that the young lad (Ben Morris) made his debut. It’s difficult enough to make your debut at senior level but even more so for him on a difficult pitch. I thought he acquitted himself well and didn’t look out of place."

Caersws FC: Mulliner, Jones, A Davies, Reynolds, Thomas, Towers, Lewis (Slater 81'), Edwards, Evans, Griffiths, M Davies (Meredith 73') Subs: not used: Haynes, Prodger, Williams.

Town: Poole, Smothers, Keddle, Morris (Coombes 81'), Hancock, C Thomas, D Thomas, Hicks, Fowler, Cattlin (Walters 55'), Cotterrall Sub: Brace. Attendance: 137 Referee: John Roberts

Old Gold makes an unexpected return to Europe

The Old Gold is about to be seen being worn proudly in Slovenia.

Club officials at Carmarthen Town AFC have been moved to act after receiving a heartfelt plea from a 16-year-old Town fan from the town of Miklavz in the former Yugoslavia .

Robert Pernek, who is a junior defender with NK Rogoza , explained that he had been following the club’s fortunes on the internet.

Mr Ashley Jones, who is Town's Supporters' Club Chairman, said: “We will be sending Robert a set of kit – it seems the least we can do. He has taken a keen interest in the club from afar.”

26.02.08 LLANELLI AFC 1 CARMARTHEN TOWN 0

Mark Pritchard's 21st minute header from an Andrew Mumford free kick proved the deciding factor in this FAW Premier Cup semi final tie.

A string of first half saves by keeper Neil Thomas kept Town in contention. And having conceded the visitors got a foothold in the game with Tim Hicks' denied by the woodwork having beaten the keeper from a Rhodri Jones' flick-on.

Following the break Thomas again made a stunning save from Wyn Thomas' volley before Paul Keddle came close, forcing a good save from Ryan Harrison, as Town made an impression down the left .

With Stuart Jones commanding in defence and Antonio Corbisiero impressive in the middle for the hosts Town failed to find the final touch despite a battling second half performance. With Llanelli edging Town out they will now face Newport County in the final.

BRACE BEMOANS LACK OF EVIDENCE

Manager Deryn Brace bemoaned the lack of camera evidence following Neil Thomas' dismissal in the final minutes of Saturday game against Druids . The Richmond Park boss felt that the presence of cameras would show clearly that both players slipped and that it certainly was not a foul.

He told Town's website, “It’s easy for me to say no. I think you can leave it to everyone else to think what they want because the only person in the ground that saw it as a sending off was the referee but unfortunately he’s the man that counts".

“Everybody else has realised that the player has slipped but he’s given the penalty and sent Tomo off. Unfortunately, with the cameras not there, we will not have the evidence that says, OK he’s been harshly treated but we’ll not punish him anymore or we won’t punish the team anymore”.

" You look for consistency from referees There hasn’t been a bad tackle in the game but the cards and sending’s off will give an other impression". Brace's views were reinforced by the Druids report of the game (see panel right).

21.02.08 SK BRAN BOW OUT OF UEFA CUP

Having started their UEFA Cup campaign at Richmond Park back in July SK Brann were finally dumped at the knock out stage of the competition by an in-form Everton. Carrying a 2-0 deficit from the fist leg Brann could not deal with the power and clinical finishing of the Premier League outfit.
The substantial numbers of traveling Brann fans were not to be denied their party as they remained vocal throughout the game despite the 6-1 scoreline.
Having won the Championship the Norwegian outfit will be in the Champion's League next year and its possible that the Bergen based outfit may well face a Welsh Premier League side in the qualifying rounds.

20.02.08 FOWLER MAKES SECOND WELSH START
Congratulations to Paul Fowler who was one of only three Welsh Premier players to make the starting line-up of the Wales Semi-Pro team in their International Challenge Trophy game against England C at Exeter's St James Park. In front of a crowd of 2,443 the Welsh were edged out 2-1 by their English opponants.

SK BRANN DOWN BUT NOT OUT

Having knocked out Town in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Cup back in the summer Norwegian outfit SK Brann were unable to hold Premier League Everton at Brann Stadion on Wednesday evening.

Brann, the first of Town's European opponents to have progressed to the knock out stages, went down to goals by Osman and Anichebe making the return leg at Goodison a very difficult assignment.

Interestingly all the European sides (FC Copenhagen, Tampera United & SK Brann) that have beaten Town have gone on to win their respective Leagues in that year.

SK Brann's lineup included seven players that started against Town and despite a comfortable winning margin Moyes' men were unable to emulate Town's three goals at the Brann Stadion. Whilst it is expected that a number of Town fans will travel to Goodison Park next week for the return leg its unlikely that the Old Gold supporters will see a turnaround in Brann fortunes as Everton look favourites to progress to the last 16 of the competition.

04.02.08 PAUL FOWLER NAMED IN WELSH SQUAD

Congratulations to Town midfielder Paul Fowler who has retained his place in Tony Pennock's Wales Semi-pro Team to face England at Exeter City's St. James' Park on Wednesday 20th February in the International Challenge Trophy.

Fowler is named as one of the eight Principality Welsh Premier League players in the sixteen-man squad:

Lee IDZI (Haverfordwest County), Ashley MORRIS (Merthyr Tydfil), Kyle CRITCHELL (Weymouth), Danny PARSLOW (York City), Adam GROSS (Grays Athletic), Jamie REWBURY (Merthyr Tydfil), Lee SURMAN (Port Talbot Town), Alex LAWLESS (Forest Green Rovers), Sion EDWARDS (Bangor City), Paul FOWLER (Carmarthen Town), Craig JONES (Llanelli AFC), Craig JONES (Rhyl FC), Chris VENABLES (Welshpool Town), Chad BOND (CF Balaguer), Les DAVIES (Bangor City), Stuart FLEETWOOD (Forest Green Rovers).

FAW YOUTH CUP
SWANSEA CITY 4 CARMARTHEN TOWN 0

Wednesday 30th. January St. Helens, Swansea

Despite a battling second half performance by Town's youngsters a 3-0 first half deficit made this Quarter Final tie a very difficult task for the Richmond lads. Chambers gave the Swans an 18th. minute opener but a brace of goals just before the break from Hewett-Fisher and Howard made it comfortable for the Swans.

Town showed plenty of charecter and competed well against their full time opponants. But with Harris causing problems sub Wright made it safe for the hosts just after the hour, hitting in Hewett-Fisher's ball.
Town resume their League campiagn against Bryntirion on Monday evening @ Richmond Park.

Town: Tennant, Williams, Butler, May (L Jones), K Davies, S Davies, Jones (Deadman), Thomas, Lewis, Horwood, Morris Subs: C Jones, Haughy, Upton, Sexton

SMUDGER REJECTS BRIDGE MEADOW MOVE

Town defender Neil Smothers has rejected an approach by neighbours Haverfordwest County.
Smothers who has been an integral part of two of Town's recent European campaigns has, much to the delight of the club & supporters, elected to remain in Old Gold colours.

Manager Deryn Brace told 'Y Dre ar Y We', "Neil's a big influence and I'm delighted that he has decided to stay with us here at Richmond Park. I think everyone was pleased to see him back in action today".
Coach Mark Aizlewood agreed, “Neil Smothers is an important player for us. Irrespective of how he’s playing as an individual he gives us solidity and an attitude and has an effect on the other players.

CARMARTHEN TOWN v THE NEW SAINTS
GAME OFF DUE TO WATERLOGGED PITCH
With the pitch playable until 3.00 pm late afternoon downpours made Tuesday night's game impossible. The FAW Premier Cup fixture will, for the second time, have to be rearranged. With Town away to Haverfordwest next Tuesday evening January 29th & February 5th. are possible dates for the rearranged fixture.

Paul Keddle08.01.08 TOWN SIGN KEDDLE

Carmarthen Town manager Deryn Brace has moved to strengthen his squad with the signature of versatile and Wales semi professional international Paul Keddle.

Keddle returns to Town colours following a short stint at Bath City. Prior to joining Town during the 2006-07 season the 25 year old spent four seasons at Merthyr Tydfil following a season with Welsh Premier outfit Rhayader Town in 2001-02.

Keddle is the second of Brace's January signings with Phil Cattlin's move to Richmond Park having being completed on Monday.

04.01.08 TOWN TRANSFER TALK

With former Town captain Rhodri Jones (photo ight) set to make a comeback in Old Gold colours the ex Manchester United professional is targeting Town's FAW Premier Cup fixture with TNS on Tuesday night 08.01.07 as a possible comeback fixture.

Jones said "I'm really looking forward to playing competitive football once again. I have no doubts about my fitness but it's going to take a little time to get fully match fit."

"I can't see myself starting a game for a little while but it would be great if I could play some part in next week's FAW Premier Cup fixture versus The New Saints." It's understood that work commitment will restrict Jones to mid week and evening games.

In other transfer news its understood that Phil Cattlin's (photo left) expected move to Richmond Park has not been completed due to the unavailability of officials at the New Bridge Meadow to process the necessary paper work. Town officials are said to be mystified.

13.12.07 AIZE EYES RHYL REVENGE

Town's game against Rhyl FC on Saturday looks to be the pick of the fixtures this weekend and could play a vital part in both clubs' ambitions.

With Llanelli and The New Saints having put a little daylight between themselves and the chasing pack the race is on to secure third place in the Welsh Premier and Saturday's fixture could provide one of the contenders with some early Christmas cheer.

The Old Gold will be looking to avenge a narrow defeat at Belle Vue on the opening weekend and extend their slim advantage over the Lilywhites.

Town are currently one place and one point ahead of Rhyl but have played a game more.

Coach Mark Aizlewood is looking forward to the tussle. Town's coach said: "Rhyl will give us a harder test defensively (than Nomads). But we can't do more than win our home games and we will take that.

"It's a disappointment that Neil Smothers has picked up an injury and we are currently without Liam Hancock and against Nomads we were without Chris Thomas.

"But we have to manage with the resources we have, and like many clubs we will be looking to add to the squad in the January transfer window."

08.12.07CARMARTHEN TOWN PROBE MATCH ATTENDANCE FIGURES

Carmarthen Town Chairman Jeff Thomas has commissioned a task group to look into the drop in match attendances that is now having a critical and serious effect upon the Club’s budgetary planning.

Thomas has asked Roger Hunt, the club’s Executive Committee member with responsibility for strategic development, to Chair the Action Group with a view to producing an action plan to redress the decline.

Hunt who is a businessman with 16 years experience as a Director of Cambridge United Football Club is joined by Geraint Hughes, a former Primary School head teacher with a lifelong involvement in junior football; Paul Ashley Jones the Chairman of Town’s Supporters Club; Jason Murphy the club’s Community Development Officer who also has wide experience within Football League; Peter Bates a junior team manager and a coach at the club’s Development Centre; Peter Price a former first team captain who has wide knowledge of the local scene and Huw Davies, Vice Chairman of the club's General Committee.

In outlining the task Jeff Thomas said, “It is hoped that the Group will research widely, be daring in their approach, think ‘outside the box’ and make firm and exciting recommendations aimed at redressing the current situation”.

Town's Chairman went on to say that he hoped that the group membership would not be restricted to the above. “Should any person wish to join they will be royally welcomed. In any event the view of every Committee person will be sought, the views of fans will be canvassed through the club’s Match Day programme and any ideas will be more than welcome”.

The club is happy to share the outcome of the study and content of any proposed action plan with interested parties. Jeff Thomas was also keen to invite clubs, supporters, the press, in fact anyone with an interest in football to contribute their views on the matter. Anyone wishing to make a contribution is welcome to contact Roger Hunt or Jeff Thomas.

Roger can be contacted on 07710 380010 or wansford.26@virgin.net

PALMER INJURY CONFIRMED

Town manager Deryn Brace has confirmed that mid-fielder Nicky Palmer has suffered a brken leg following Saturday's game at Welshpool.

Talking to ‘Y Dre ar Y We’ Bace said “It really is bad news, Nicky will be in plaster for some time. He’s a complete athlete who has made his mark at every club he has been at. He can take his place in any team in the Welsh Premier and this is a cruel blow for the lad. We just hope that he will be back with us as soon as possible and we all wish him a full and speedy recovery”.

Having lost forward Curtis McDonald last week following a move to Poland and defender Gareth Warton who has completed an expected move to Merthyr Tydfil Brace will look to make best use of his resources and is confident that the club’s youngsters will take the opportunity to make their mark in the squad.

“We really have got a great team of lads. The youth team has made great strides recently and I’m confident that several of them have the calibre to make it in the Welsh Premier”.

Brace however did have his reservations regarding the new 'one club' ruling. “I do have my doubts. I think that the Welsh Premier is most probably one of the Leagues that will find it difficult to sustain the one club ruling. I just do not think that the League or the clubs have the resources to support it”.

Everyone at Carmarthen Town Football Club wishes Nicky a full and speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back in Old Gold colours very soon.

McDONALD MOVES TO MKS SWIT
Town forward Curtis McDonald has made a move to Polish side MKS Swit to resume his professional career. The young striker, who has recently made quite an impression at Richmond Park, has joined the Polish III Liga side MKS Swit Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki.

RAMASUT FLIES TO THE BLUEBIRDS
Town midfielder Tom Ramaut has joined Haverfordwest County. Despite attracting interest from Llanelli AFC at the start of the season a move to Stebonheath did not materialise and the midfielder, who made 40 starts for Town last season in all competitions and was involved in both European games in the summer, has decided to move West to the New Bridge Meadow. 03.09.07

TOWN SIGN McDONALD

Carmarthen Town have signed the former Cardiff City professional Curtis Mc Donald. The left sided player who has been released by City is no stranger to Richmond Park as he scored twice against Town in last season's Premier Cup fixture. He joins his former team mate Gragg Coombes who made his Town debut last Saturday at Rhyl.

02.08.07 SK Brann 6 Carmarthen Town 3

Carmarthen Town restored some pride with a defiant performance at the Brann Stadion on Thursday night.
A brace for second half sub Tim Hicks adding to Danny Thomas' first half effort gave Town some consolation for their efforts.

Having gone in at half time 4-1 in arrears Town produced determined second half performance that showed commitment and potential and despite a record equalling defeat there were plus points and positives to show for the short European campaign.

02.08.07 Town Positive of a Performance

Town face a strong SK Brann side tonight at the Brann Stadion as they look to restore some pride with a positive performance against the Norwegian league leaders in this second leg of the UEFA cup Qualifier.

With a couple of important games coming up Brann have rested captain Martin Andresen & striker Thorstein Helstad and Gunnar Solli is out through injury. Interestingly defender Bjarnason will play up front but the line up will test Town to the full.

To replace those resting Bakke and Jaiteh will start in mid field for the home side.

Town have also make a few changes. Richard Hughes will partner Warton in the centre of defence with Chris Thomas taking up the left flank. Danny Thomas has been recalled to the strike role he played against Cardiff.

Even with the early evening conditions drying a little the pitch still looks wet and soft .

16.07.07 Town boss Deryn Brace is happy with the preparations for Town’s UEFA cup tie with Norwegian giants SK Brann tomorrow night at Richmond Park

“Yes preparations have probably gone as well as we could have expected. Obviously the weather hasn’t helped, too wet to play games, having said that everything else has gone as well as possible".

The Richmond Park boss is looking for a positive performance on Thursday night and has made his objective quite clear.

"Obviously it’s to be able to stay in the tie. It’s stilly to say we are going to do this and that and have exaggerated expectations. It’s all about being realistic and giving ourselves that genuine chance of keeping the tie alive for when we go to their place in 2 weeks time".

"It probably means not losing. Anything other than that is a bonus on the winning front but a clean sheet is probably vital. But if we don’t score it’s not the end of the world and obviously then it will be more of a cagey affair when we go over there".

With this his second European campaign as a manager what has previous experience taught the former Wrexham defender?

"I’ve found, speaking to a lot of players and management teams within the League, that a lot of players use it as a break rather than a competition".

"We’ve drilled it into the boys from the start that we’re not just going for a break. It’s not just about learning about football in other countries, yes it’s a fantastic exercise for us but it must start at home before going away. It is a competition and we must get the most out of it if we want to progress".

Brace hoped that the local fans will turn out in force to support the Town on what is a historic occasion.

"Yes I hope they turn out in droves to support us and enjoy the occasion. It is a big occasion playing in Europe and big occasion for Carmarthen town".

"I would love the fans to be loud and would love them to support us throughout the 90 minutes, whether it’s going our way or not. I want them to come and enjoy the experience"

As to the main challenges facing Town Brace felt that was something his own squad needed to deal with.

"Maybe the main danger lies with us. They are a team filled with players that have played at this level and higher and they are experienced and should be able to handle certain situations".

"What I don’t want our boys to do is to get carried away with the situation and to treat it like a one off cup tie and throw everything at them.

"Its about being patient. If we lose possession it’s about getting people behind the ball".

"We’ve gone through this in training and I felt it worked well against Cardiff especially in the second half. I felt the boys did well in maintaining the lead and then going out and doubling it. It was a great exercise against Cardiff and now we have to go one better and do it against SK Brann".

07.07.07 CARDIFF REACTION and the BRANN CHALLENGE

Following Saturday's game against Cardiff City Town’s management were pleased with the team’s performance. Manager Deryn Brace told 'Y Dre ar Y We':

“The performance was encouraging. Obviously it’s always good to have a winning habit.

“The most pleasing aspect was the way we set our stall out. Yes, we did ride our luck on a couple of occasions in the first half but our scrambled defence, which you need at times, worked well.

Over the 90 minutes I thought we acquitted ourselves well against a useful Cardiff side.

“We gained confidence in every unit as the game progressed. The defensive unit gelled well together as the game wore on and looked more and more commanding.

“The midfield trio were outstanding and on occasions it was the Cardiff midfield that was doing the chasing not the other way round.

Coach Mark Aizlewood agreed “Absolutely delighted, and really a little bit worried, in that we have set very high standards today.

“The most pleasing thing was that our players appeared to settle back into the system as if they had never really been away.

Looking ahead to next week's UEFA Cup game Brace said: “In all fairness to Cardiff , yes they did give us a fantastic workout but they were never going to stretch themselves as Brann probably can.

“Obviously SK Brann are in their season and we can expect them to be free flowing and well into their game.

“And whilst it was a fantastic workout today we know that the team we'll face in twelve days time is going to be a lot harder challenge than today's.

07.07.07 Pre Season Friendly
Carmarthen Town 2 Cardiff City 0

Town had the best possible preparation against a strong Cardiff City side that included the Bluebirds new summer signings and the on trial Cypriot International Charalambides.

With Capaldi, MacLean and Rae making their first City appearance the opening exchanges saw Town under the cosh with City sharp in attack and MacLean forcing Thomas to save well.

But against the run of play Town took the lead with an impressive break from the back that saw Cotterall provide well for Walters who headed in unmarked in front of goal.

With Thomas sharp to save again from MacLean Town’s mid field trio of Fowler, Palmer and Ramasut were in the thick of the action as they matched the Cardiff challenge well.

Green came close with a raking shot and a couple of minutes later his header was easily held by Thomas but with no addition to the score line Town maintained their slim advantage at the break.

The second half saw City push for the equaliser but with Town squandering very little and Fowler and D Thomas testing the City defence the hosts doubled the advantage just before the hour. Loovens was adjudged to have passed back to his keeper and Fowler struck home a sweet set piece from the edge of the box to make it 2-0.

The final twenty minutes saw both sides make a number of changes and Thomas produced a fine one handed save to deny Loovens. But with Charalambides’ sending his late raking set piece narrowly wide Town will be pleased to have kept a clean sheet against a sharp City line-up.

Town : N Thomas (Poole), Hughes (Hancock), Smothers, Palmer, Warton, C Thomas, D Thomas (Davies), Ramasut, Fowler, Walters (Lancey), Cotterrall (Adams).

Cardiff City : Herring, Gunter, Capaldi (Bloom), Rae, Archeampong, Loovens, Charalambides, Blake (Upcott), MacLean, Green (Kelleher), Ledley (Brown). Subs not used: Margetson, Webbe, Mason, Wade.

Town 3 Afan Lido 2

With a 3-2 victory over Afan Lido at Stebonheath Park on Sunday Town lifted the Welsh Cup for the first time in their history and with it booked a third consecutive foray into European.

The five goal thriller saw Town's Kaid Mohamed net a brace, one in each half, and inbetween a fine individual effort from Sasha Walters. In reply Lido's only scorer Ian Jones grabbed a brace to keep the Aberavon outfit in close contention.

Town got the best possible start when Mohamed lashed home Walters’ lay-off after Cotterrall crossed from the flank on 13 minutes.

But Lido were back on level terms three minutes later when referee Lee Evans awarded Lido an indirect free kick inside the box after Terry Evans had fouled John Felton and Jones netted the equaliser with an excellent strike into the corner of the net.

Town regained the lead on 26 minutes after Walters broke the length of the field to fire past Brian Thomas from the edge of the box and maintain Town’s advantage to the break.

A couple of minutes after the resumption Mohamed grabbed his second when he finished Cotterrall's set-up well to give Town a two goal cushin. But with Lido upping the pace and throwing everything forward Jones fired home Felton's cross to set up an nail biting final quarter hour.

But the Richmond Park outfit were determined to finish their third Welsh Cup appearance with a win and with the final whistle Town etched a new name on the cup and with it a place in next season's Uefa Cup.
