24.03.08 Town travel to Port Talbot on Friday night and manager Deryn Brace will be looking for a positive outcome as Town look to ensure a fourth spot finish to this year's League campaign. Aizes' angle on the game... "We played some decent football at times in very difficult conditions but I think that we made hard work of it at times. " "A decent effort by the players on a very, very difficult pitch to defend on, attack on or to do anything football wise on. But before the game you’d settle for three points and that’s what we got. " "It was pleasing that the young lad (Ben Morris) made his debut. It’s difficult enough to make your debut at senior level but even more so for him on a difficult pitch. I thought he acquitted himself well and didn’t look out of place." Caersws FC: Mulliner, Jones, A Davies, Reynolds, Thomas, Towers, Lewis (Slater 81'), Edwards, Evans, Griffiths, M Davies (Meredith 73') Subs: not used: Haynes, Prodger, Williams. Old Gold makes an unexpected return to Europe The Old Gold is about to be seen being worn proudly in Slovenia. Club officials at Carmarthen Town AFC have been moved to act after receiving a heartfelt plea from a 16-year-old Town fan from the town of Miklavz in the former Yugoslavia . Robert Pernek, who is a junior defender with NK Rogoza , explained that he had been following the club’s fortunes on the internet. Mr Ashley Jones, who is Town's Supporters' Club Chairman, said: “We will be sending Robert a set of kit – it seems the least we can do. He has taken a keen interest in the club from afar.” 26.02.08 LLANELLI AFC 1 CARMARTHEN TOWN 0 Mark Pritchard's 21st minute header from an Andrew Mumford free kick proved the deciding factor in this FAW Premier Cup semi final tie. A string of first half saves by keeper Neil Thomas kept Town in contention. And having conceded the visitors got a foothold in the game with Tim Hicks' denied by the woodwork having beaten the keeper from a Rhodri Jones' flick-on. Following the break Thomas again made a stunning save from Wyn Thomas' volley before Paul Keddle came close, forcing a good save from Ryan Harrison, as Town made an impression down the left . With Stuart Jones commanding in defence and Antonio Corbisiero impressive in the middle for the hosts Town failed to find the final touch despite a battling second half performance. With Llanelli edging Town out they will now face Newport County in the final. BRACE BEMOANS LACK OF EVIDENCE Manager Deryn Brace bemoaned the lack of camera evidence following Neil Thomas' dismissal in the final minutes of Saturday game against Druids . The Richmond Park boss felt that the presence of cameras would show clearly that both players slipped and that it certainly was not a foul. He told Town's website, “It’s easy for me to say no. I think you can leave it to everyone else to think what they want because the only person in the ground that saw it as a sending off was the referee but unfortunately he’s the man that counts". “Everybody else has realised that the player has slipped but he’s given the penalty and sent Tomo off. Unfortunately, with the cameras not there, we will not have the evidence that says, OK he’s been harshly treated but we’ll not punish him anymore or we won’t punish the team anymore”. " You look for consistency from referees There hasn’t been a bad tackle in the game but the cards and sending’s off will give an other impression". Brace's views were reinforced by the Druids report of the game (see panel right). 21.02.08 SK BRAN BOW OUT OF UEFA CUP Having started their UEFA Cup campaign at Richmond Park back in July SK Brann were finally dumped at the knock out stage of the competition by an in-form Everton. Carrying a 2-0 deficit from the fist leg Brann could not deal with the power and clinical finishing of the Premier League outfit. 20.02.08 FOWLER MAKES SECOND WELSH START 04.02.08 PAUL FOWLER NAMED IN WELSH SQUAD FAW YOUTH CUP
SMUDGER REJECTS BRIDGE MEADOW MOVE Manager Deryn Brace told 'Y Dre ar Y We', "Neil's a big influence and I'm delighted that he has decided to stay with us here at Richmond Park. I think everyone was pleased to see him back in action today".
Carmarthen Town manager Deryn Brace has moved to strengthen his squad with the signature of versatile and Wales semi professional international Paul Keddle. Keddle returns to Town colours following a short stint at Bath City. Prior to joining Town during the 2006-07 season the 25 year old spent four seasons at Merthyr Tydfil following a season with Welsh Premier outfit Rhayader Town in 2001-02. Keddle is the second of Brace's January signings with Phil Cattlin's move to Richmond Park having being completed on Monday. 04.01.08 TOWN TRANSFER TALK Jones said "I'm really looking forward to playing competitive football once again. I have no doubts about my fitness but it's going to take a little time to get fully match fit."
In other transfer news its understood that Phil Cattlin's (photo left) expected move to Richmond Park has not been completed due to the unavailability of officials at the New Bridge Meadow to process the necessary paper work. Town officials are said to be mystified.
Town's game against Rhyl FC on Saturday looks to be the pick of the fixtures this weekend and could play a vital part in both clubs' ambitions. With Llanelli and The New Saints having put a little daylight between themselves and the chasing pack the race is on to secure third place in the Welsh Premier and Saturday's fixture could provide one of the contenders with some early Christmas cheer. The Old Gold will be looking to avenge a narrow defeat at Belle Vue on the opening weekend and extend their slim advantage over the Lilywhites. Town are currently one place and one point ahead of Rhyl but have played a game more. Coach Mark Aizlewood is looking forward to the tussle. Town's coach said: "Rhyl will give us a harder test defensively (than Nomads). But we can't do more than win our home games and we will take that. "It's a disappointment that Neil Smothers has picked up an injury and we are currently without Liam Hancock and against Nomads we were without Chris Thomas. "But we have to manage with the resources we have, and like many clubs we will be looking to add to the squad in the January transfer window." 08.12.07CARMARTHEN TOWN PROBE MATCH ATTENDANCE FIGURES Carmarthen Town Chairman Jeff Thomas has commissioned a task group to look into the drop in match attendances that is now having a critical and serious effect upon the Club’s budgetary planning. Thomas has asked Roger Hunt, the club’s Executive Committee member with responsibility for strategic development, to Chair the Action Group with a view to producing an action plan to redress the decline. Hunt who is a businessman with 16 years experience as a Director of Cambridge United Football Club is joined by Geraint Hughes, a former Primary School head teacher with a lifelong involvement in junior football; Paul Ashley Jones the Chairman of Town’s Supporters Club; Jason Murphy the club’s Community Development Officer who also has wide experience within Football League; Peter Bates a junior team manager and a coach at the club’s Development Centre; Peter Price a former first team captain who has wide knowledge of the local scene and Huw Davies, Vice Chairman of the club's General Committee. In outlining the task Jeff Thomas said, “It is hoped that the Group will research widely, be daring in their approach, think ‘outside the box’ and make firm and exciting recommendations aimed at redressing the current situation”. Town's Chairman went on to say that he hoped that the group membership would not be restricted to the above. “Should any person wish to join they will be royally welcomed. In any event the view of every Committee person will be sought, the views of fans will be canvassed through the club’s Match Day programme and any ideas will be more than welcome”. The club is happy to share the outcome of the study and content of any proposed action plan with interested parties. Jeff Thomas was also keen to invite clubs, supporters, the press, in fact anyone with an interest in football to contribute their views on the matter. Anyone wishing to make a contribution is welcome to contact Roger Hunt or Jeff Thomas. Roger can be contacted on 07710 380010 or wansford.26@virgin.net TOWN DRAW TNS TOWN LAUNCH NEW YEAR PRIZE DRAW 2008 The draw represents a most attractive proposition with a 75% PROFIT ON ALL TICKETS ORDERED, THUS RAISING MUCH NEEDED FUNDS FOR YOUR ORGANISATION. PALMER INJURY CONFIRMED Having lost forward Curtis McDonald last week following a move to Poland and defender Gareth Warton who has completed an expected move to Merthyr Tydfil Brace will look to make best use of his resources and is confident that the club’s youngsters will take the opportunity to make their mark in the squad. “We really have got a great team of lads. The youth team has made great strides recently and I’m confident that several of them have the calibre to make it in the Welsh Premier”. Brace however did have his reservations regarding the new 'one club' ruling. “I do have my doubts. I think that the Welsh Premier is most probably one of the Leagues that will find it difficult to sustain the one club ruling. I just do not think that the League or the clubs have the resources to support it”. Everyone at Carmarthen Town Football Club wishes Nicky a full and speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back in Old Gold colours very soon. McDONALD MOVES TO MKS SWIT
WINTER COMES TO RICHMOND
TOWN SIGN McDONALD Carmarthen Town have signed the former Cardiff City professional Curtis Mc Donald. The left sided player who has been released by City is no stranger to Richmond Park as he scored twice against Town in last season's Premier Cup fixture. He joins his former team mate Gragg Coombes who made his Town debut last Saturday at Rhyl. 02.08.07 SK Brann 6 Carmarthen Town 3 Carmarthen Town restored some pride with a defiant performance at the Brann Stadion on Thursday night. 02.08.07 Town Positive of a Performance Town face a strong SK Brann side tonight at the Brann Stadion as they look to restore some pride with a positive performance against the Norwegian league leaders in this second leg of the UEFA cup Qualifier. With a couple of important games coming up Brann have rested captain Martin Andresen & striker Thorstein Helstad and Gunnar Solli is out through injury. Interestingly defender Bjarnason will play up front but the line up will test Town to the full. Even with the early evening conditions drying a little the pitch still looks wet and soft .
16.07.07 Town boss Deryn Brace is happy with the preparations for Town’s UEFA cup tie with Norwegian giants SK Brann tomorrow night at Richmond Park “Yes preparations have probably gone as well as we could have expected. Obviously the weather hasn’t helped, too wet to play games, having said that everything else has gone as well as possible". The Richmond Park boss is looking for a positive performance on Thursday night and has made his objective quite clear. "Obviously it’s to be able to stay in the tie. It’s stilly to say we are going to do this and that and have exaggerated expectations. It’s all about being realistic and giving ourselves that genuine chance of keeping the tie alive for when we go to their place in 2 weeks time". "It probably means not losing. Anything other than that is a bonus on the winning front but a clean sheet is probably vital. But if we don’t score it’s not the end of the world and obviously then it will be more of a cagey affair when we go over there". With this his second European campaign as a manager what has previous experience taught the former Wrexham defender? "I’ve found, speaking to a lot of players and management teams within the League, that a lot of players use it as a break rather than a competition". "We’ve drilled it into the boys from the start that we’re not just going for a break. It’s not just about learning about football in other countries, yes it’s a fantastic exercise for us but it must start at home before going away. It is a competition and we must get the most out of it if we want to progress". Brace hoped that the local fans will turn out in force to support the Town on what is a historic occasion. "Yes I hope they turn out in droves to support us and enjoy the occasion. It is a big occasion playing in Europe and big occasion for Carmarthen town". "I would love the fans to be loud and would love them to support us throughout the 90 minutes, whether it’s going our way or not. I want them to come and enjoy the experience" As to the main challenges facing Town Brace felt that was something his own squad needed to deal with. "Maybe the main danger lies with us. They are a team filled with players that have played at this level and higher and they are experienced and should be able to handle certain situations". "What I don’t want our boys to do is to get carried away with the situation and to treat it like a one off cup tie and throw everything at them. "Its about being patient. If we lose possession it’s about getting people behind the ball". "We’ve gone through this in training and I felt it worked well against Cardiff especially in the second half. I felt the boys did well in maintaining the lead and then going out and doubling it. It was a great exercise against Cardiff and now we have to go one better and do it against SK Brann". 07.07.07 CARDIFF REACTION and the BRANN CHALLENGE “The performance was encouraging. Obviously it’s always good to have a winning habit. “The most pleasing aspect was the way we set our stall out. Yes, we did ride our luck on a couple of occasions in the first half but our scrambled defence, which you need at times, worked well. Over the 90 minutes I thought we acquitted ourselves well against a useful Cardiff side. “We gained confidence in every unit as the game progressed. The defensive unit gelled well together as the game wore on and looked more and more commanding. “The midfield trio were outstanding and on occasions it was the Cardiff midfield that was doing the chasing not the other way round. Looking ahead to next week's UEFA Cup game Brace said: “In all fairness to Cardiff , yes they did give us a fantastic workout but they were never going to stretch themselves as Brann probably can. “And whilst it was a fantastic workout today we know that the team we'll face in twelve days time is going to be a lot harder challenge than today's. 07.07.07 Pre Season FriendlyCarmarthen Town 2 Cardiff City 0 Town had the best possible preparation against a strong Cardiff City side that included the Bluebirds new summer signings and the on trial Cypriot International Charalambides. With Capaldi, MacLean and Rae making their first City appearance the opening exchanges saw Town under the cosh with City sharp in attack and MacLean forcing Thomas to save well. But against the run of play Town took the lead with an impressive break from the back that saw Cotterall provide well for Walters who headed in unmarked in front of goal. With Thomas sharp to save again from MacLean Town’s mid field trio of Fowler, Palmer and Ramasut were in the thick of the action as they matched the Cardiff challenge well. Green came close with a raking shot and a couple of minutes later his header was easily held by Thomas but with no addition to the score line Town maintained their slim advantage at the break. The second half saw City push for the equaliser but with Town squandering very little and Fowler and D Thomas testing the City defence the hosts doubled the advantage just before the hour. Loovens was adjudged to have passed back to his keeper and Fowler struck home a sweet set piece from the edge of the box to make it 2-0. The final twenty minutes saw both sides make a number of changes and Thomas produced a fine one handed save to deny Loovens. But with Charalambides’ sending his late raking set piece narrowly wide Town will be pleased to have kept a clean sheet against a sharp City line-up. Town : N Thomas (Poole), Hughes (Hancock), Smothers, Palmer, Warton, C Thomas, D Thomas (Davies), Ramasut, Fowler, Walters (Lancey), Cotterrall (Adams). He told 'Y Dre ar Y We' , “I don't fancy any one particular club. Of course Helsingborg is the kind of draw that would be fantastic but we know we're not going to get an easy draw. EUROPEAN FOOTBALL AT RICHMOND Following the visit of an UEFA delegate to Richmond Park recently Carmarthen Town have been granted an UEFA Ground License. The granting of the all important license sees the club fulfil the long held ambition of staging European football in Carmarthen. The license is the culmination of several years of meticulous planning and development by the club and will enable Town to play their forthcoming home UEFA Cup tie at their Richmond Park ground. Carmarthen Town AFC is one of only three Welsh Premier League clubs that have been granted a Ground License by UEFA. Nigel Williams, 21 Maes Dolau, Idole, Carmarthen. With a 3-2 victory over Afan Lido at Stebonheath Park on Sunday Town lifted the Welsh Cup for the first time in their history and with it booked a third consecutive foray into European. The five goal thriller saw Town's Kaid Mohamed net a brace, one in each half, and inbetween a fine individual effort from Sasha Walters. In reply Lido's only scorer Ian Jones grabbed a brace to keep the Aberavon outfit in close contention. Town got the best possible start when Mohamed lashed home Walters’ lay-off after Cotterrall crossed from the flank on 13 minutes. Town regained the lead on 26 minutes after Walters broke the length of the field to fire past Brian Thomas from the edge of the box and maintain Town’s advantage to the break. A couple of minutes after the resumption Mohamed grabbed his second when he finished Cotterrall's set-up well to give Town a two goal cushin. But with Lido upping the pace and throwing everything forward Jones fired home Felton's cross to set up an nail biting final quarter hour. But the Richmond Park outfit were determined to finish their third Welsh Cup appearance with a win and with the final whistle Town etched a new name on the cup and with it a place in next season's Uefa Cup.
