"We have 15 youngsters from town here and they have all been permanently expelled from school."

"We hope to help them keep active through football but also show them skill-building methods and show them DVDs on various topics, such as racism."

Aizlewood added: "Society has failed these youngsters and that is why Carmarthen Town has started this project."

Local police are also involved in delivering talks and lectures on topics. In addition to the Smart project the club wants to expand its services to all age groups in the community.

Aizlewood has secured funding from the Welsh Council of Voluntary Action (WCVA) to train a team of 10 people to deliver IT courses, first aid and qualify as referees.

The training is free and will then enable another project to get off the ground.

Funding has been secured from chartered accountants Clay Shaw Butler and match funded by the club.

The volunteers will visit schools both in town and across Carmarthenshire to deliver workshops working alongside FAW Trust/Carmarthenshire Council Football Development Officer, Colin Staples.

Plans for an IT unit at the club are also underway.

Aizlewood said: "We want everyone from six to 60, and over to be involved in our projects" and stressed that the projects were designed to be long term ventures and that eventually they should be self-sustaining.

"When I have left the club I want the legacy of these projects to live on and continue to benefit the people." Carmarthen Journal 09.11.05

We only really performed in the opening quarter out there. This time round it will be different. We know we can do it and are very confident. We're all really ‘up for it’.

14.07.05 Longford Town 2 Carmarthen Town 0 Despite setting the alarm bells ringing around Flancare Park with a bright opening quarter Carmarthen Town went down 2-0 to a well organised 'in season' Longford Town in the first leg of the UEFA Cup qualifying tie. Goals from Stephen Paisley (35' ) and Barry Ferguson (55') gave the hosts a deserved win but despite being 'under the cosh' for long periods Town defended resolutely to keep their interest in the tie alive.

13.07.05 Carmarthen Town travel to Ireland today ahead of tomorrow's UEFA Cup tie against Longford Town. Mark Jones and his squad are relishing the challenge. Having travelled to Ireland last Friday with coach Mark Aizlewood to run the rule over their opponents the Richmond Park boss had no illusions regarding the challenge that Longford will pose.

24.06.05 UEFA CUP DRAW

In the UEFA Cup draw made today in Nyon Switzerland this afternoon Town has been drawn against Longford of the Eircom League. Mark Jones the Richmond Park boss is absolutely delighted with the draw, "It’s just great, we couldn’t have wished for a better draw. The travelling is manageable as its always difficult to travel long distances against unknown opposition."Like us Longford are a semi professional side and are currently in mid table and that will give us a very realistic chance of making it through to the second round".

The ties, which will be played on the 14th. and 28th. July, will see Town travel away for the first leg with Newtown’s Latham Park the likely venue for the home leg as Richmond Park is currently not up to UEFA requirements.

With the Welsh Premier League being pushed towards summer football and the Eircom League being held up as a successful example of the switch it will give the Richmond Park outfit the perfect opportunity to measure up to Eircom opposition.

The tie will also give midfielder Richard Kennedy an opportunity to meet up with former adversaries. Having played for Waterford last season against Longford Kennedy knows the strength of the opposition.
He told 'Y Dre ar Y We' "They're a big strong side and don't give much away. They're a good side and have a lovely pitch and I'm looking forward to it. Its always great to have an idea of what you're up against", added the experienced mid fielder.
