CARMARTHEN Town were deserved winners of the Loosemores Challenge Cup after an extra-time victory over holders Rhyl at Newtown on Monday afternoon. With the game finishing goalless after ninety minutes a superb curling strike from the edge of the box by midfielder Richard Kennedy gave Town the vital lead 11 minutes into extra time. And when young substitute Omar Abdillahi converted Nathan Cotterall’s shot come cross at the far post three minutes later the Richmond Park outfit were able to celebrate their first ever League Cup win.

Town stalwarts Jonathan Lewis, Willie Thomas and John Davidson take a breather amongst the smokey remains of the old stand that is now all but demolished. In the background is the new stand that will seat 540 spectators. Interestingly Willie Thomas was one of the helpers in the construction of the old stand in 1956 and now 49 years later he is still as enthusiastic as ever - pulling it down. The demolition of the old stand will enable local contractors to move on to the site to carry out ground works to widen the pitch, extend the drainage and secure the perimeter. With the erection of Town's new floodlights by main sponsors EMC Services Richmond Park will soon have a decidedly new look in preparation for the new season. |

23.01.05 With Mark Jones fielding a full squad Town had a comfortable 5-2 win over Pembrokeshire League side Monkton Swifts. The visitor's giant keeper Rearden was in early action to deny point blank efforts from Summers and Kennedy and it was the visitors who threatened an upset when they took the lead on the quarter hour when Day picked up on Lloyd's short back pass to slot past keeper Walters against the run of play. With Town firmly in control the game was played in the visitor's half and Summers finally settled Town's nerves just after the half hour when he picked up on Hardy's pass and weaved through the defence to cancel out the Monkton's early advantage. The second half saw Town capitalise fully on their control going ahead on the hour . Hardy carried to the bye line and his cross into the box was headed home comfortably by Lima. A couple of minutes later Summers stabbed home Town's third following good work by Morris and Burke down the right. Lloyd made amends for his earlier transgression when a short corner was played back to him and he netted, virtually from the touchline, to give Town a comfortable margin. Town kept up the momentum limiting swifts to the ocasional break from defence and Summers put the game beyond doubt when he netted his hat-trick after Swifts failed to clear Town pressure. With the game won Lowe pulled one back for the visitors with five minutes remaining when he capitalised on a mix up in the middle of Town's defence. Town were made to work hard for their win and having been without a WP fixture this weekend Mark Jones will be pleased that his squad, including some of the younger players, had a competative game ahead of vital fixtures over the next couple of weeks. Carmarthen Town: Walters, Hardy, Lloyd, Giles, Chiverton, Burke, Summers, Kennedy, Lima (Carter 63'), Aspell (Davies 60'), Cotterall (Morris 46'). 11.12.04
Manager Mark Jones and members of his squad visited Glangwili Hospital on saturday morning to present gifts to the hospital's children's ward. The event was organised by General manager Kevin Morris as a result of his Guess The Score competition that raised over £200 for Cilgeran Ward. 05.12.04 Rhodri Jones who was airlifted to hospital on Saturday following a clash of heads during the Porthmadog v Carmarthen game is recovering well. He was transferred from Ysbyty Gwynedd to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd on Sunday for further specialist treatment but it is hoped that he will be released from hospital on Monday. Reflecting on the game Town manager Mark Jones said, “In the circumstances the result was almost irrelevant. We're just happy that Rhodri is OK and hopefully will be back with us soon”. Paying tribute to the team physios who treated Rhodri on the pitch he said, "Gary (Morris) and Jordanna (McCarley) did a fantastic professional job looking after Rhodri before the paramedics took over and we are grateful to the officials and fans of Porthmadog who helped us out during the afternoon. Carmarthen Town 1 Afan Lido 1 Town leveled the score twelve minutes later. Pennock's long clearance was flicked on by Lima and Cotteral out wide made ground and squared the ball for Summers to knock in the equaliser on 36 minutes. With the game played at high tempo it was end to end stuff and McCreesh should have added a second when Lido charged down a clearance and the No7 hit the ball across the face of the goal and narrowly wide. 13.11.04 Following Town's game with Airbus Richard Carter received the McGinley's Player of the Month Award from match sponsor Lloyd Jones Regional Manager of HSBC 08.11.04 Congratulations to RHODRI JONES on being awarded the Welsh Premier League's PLAYER OF THE MONTH AWARD for October. 03.11.04 Martyn Giles has been awarded the McGINLEY RECRUITMENT SERVICES PLAYER OF THE MONTH AWARD FOR SEPTEMBER. In winning the award ‘Gilo' beat off the challenge of fellow defender Luke Hardy. Well done Martyn! The response to Academy sessions has been outstanding to the extent that Town now run Community Football sessions in addition to the Academy sessions. The future of youth development at Carmarthen Town looks very encouraging. 10.10.04 Craig Lima's hat-trick on Friday evening is almost certainly a Welsh Premier League record. With three goals in three minutes - 87,89,90 Lima's exploits mirrored those of Bournemouth's James Hayter against Wrexham in February of this year. Hayter came on with six minutes remaining and struck three times in 2minutes 20 seconds to set an English League record . |
