08.05.05 Carmarthen Town 0 TNS 1
Having lifted the League Cup last Monday there was no dream second cup win for Carmarthen Town on Sunday at Stebonheath Llanelli. Having competed well throughout against the fully professional Llansantffraid based outfit Town went down to a 75th. minute strike by John Lawless. Despite the cup heartbreak Town have enjoyed their best season for a number of years and with another european adventure to look forward to and extensive ground improvements underway at Richmond Park Town have regained their high profile amongst Welsh Premier Clubs.

WELL DONE LADS!

Carmarthen Town 2 Rhyl FC 0

CARMARTHEN Town were deserved winners of the Loosemores Challenge Cup after an extra-time victory over holders Rhyl at Newtown on Monday afternoon.

With the game finishing goalless after ninety minutes a superb curling strike from the edge of the box by midfielder Richard Kennedy gave Town the vital lead 11 minutes into extra time.

And when young substitute Omar Abdillahi converted Nathan Cotterall’s shot come cross at the far post three minutes later the Richmond Park outfit were able to celebrate their first ever League Cup win.

Town stalwarts Jonathan Lewis, Willie Thomas and John Davidson take a breather amongst the smokey remains of the old stand that is now all but demolished. In the background is the new stand that will seat 540 spectators.

Interestingly Willie Thomas was one of the helpers in the construction of the old stand in 1956 and now 49 years later he is still as enthusiastic as ever - pulling it down.

The demolition of the old stand will enable local contractors to move on to the site to carry out ground works to widen the pitch, extend the drainage and secure the perimeter.

With the erection of Town's new floodlights by main sponsors EMC Services Richmond Park will soon have a decidedly new look in preparation for the new season.

13.04.05 Town gain National Club Licence

In a press release today the FAW announced the names of clubs that have successful gained a National Club Licence and it is great credit to club Chairman Jeff Thomas’ unstinting work over a number of months that Carmarthen Town AFC are amongst the clubs awarded a licence.
Total Network Solutions, Caersws FC, Aberystwyth Town and Welshpool Town were the other successful clubs. The Club Licensing Body assesses the applications based on the Infrastructure, Sporting (Youth), Personnel, Legal and Financial aspects of the club. Every club that competes in Champion’s League, UEFA Cup or Intertoto Cup must be granted a licence in order to be nominated for the competition.
The board was particularly delighted that Caersws FC had achieved the Licence this season after narrowly missing out 12 months ago and also that both Carmarthen Town and Welshpool Town managed to overcome many of the non-conformities last season to reach the required standard. The Board also praised TNS and Aberystwyth Town for being granted a Licence for the second consecutive season. Rhyl FC and Bangor City were not granted a licence.

12.03.05 Irish Ref at Richmond

Carmarthen Town's Welsh Premier game against Caersws was refereed by Alan Black of the Northern Ireland Premier League. The visit took place under the exchange arrangements initiated this season between the Football Associations of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

This was Alan's first visit to Wales and he was assisted by two FIFA officials Phil Bates and Eddie King. The visit was hosted by FAW & FIFA referee Mark Whitby who took part in the programme earlier in the season when he officiated in Scotland.

24.02.05 STEVE DEVONALD has rejoined the club this week. Steve, who made his debut for Town in a thrilling 2-2 draw with Barry Town in November 2002, was a member of Neil O'Brien' successful promotion squad at Stebonheath last season but this season has been with Welsh League outfit Pontardawe Town. Steve is a product of Llanelli AFC's Academy and made twenty three appearances in Old Gold during the 2002-03 season. Steve is a Welsh Colleges International.

23.01.05 With Mark Jones fielding a full squad Town had a comfortable 5-2 win over Pembrokeshire League side Monkton Swifts. The visitor's giant keeper Rearden was in early action to deny point blank efforts from Summers and Kennedy and it was the visitors who threatened an upset when they took the lead on the quarter hour when Day picked up on Lloyd's short back pass to slot past keeper Walters against the run of play.

With Town firmly in control the game was played in the visitor's half and Summers finally settled Town's nerves just after the half hour when he picked up on Hardy's pass and weaved through the defence to cancel out the Monkton's early advantage.

The second half saw Town capitalise fully on their control going ahead on the hour . Hardy carried to the bye line and his cross into the box was headed home comfortably by Lima. A couple of minutes later Summers stabbed home Town's third following good work by Morris and Burke down the right.

Lloyd made amends for his earlier transgression when a short corner was played back to him and he netted, virtually from the touchline, to give Town a comfortable margin. Town kept up the momentum limiting swifts to the ocasional break from defence and Summers put the game beyond doubt when he netted his hat-trick after Swifts failed to clear Town pressure. With the game won Lowe pulled one back for the visitors with five minutes remaining when he capitalised on a mix up in the middle of Town's defence.

Town were made to work hard for their win and having been without a WP fixture this weekend Mark Jones will be pleased that his squad, including some of the younger players, had a competative game ahead of vital fixtures over the next couple of weeks.

Carmarthen Town: Walters, Hardy, Lloyd, Giles, Chiverton, Burke, Summers, Kennedy, Lima (Carter 63'), Aspell (Davies 60'), Cotterall (Morris 46').
Monkton Swifts : Rearden, Harts, Lowe, Shaw, B. Jones, Peterson, Day (R. Jones 63'), Taylor, Davies, L. Jones (N. Jones 55'), Rome. Referee : Dean John.

Manager Mark Jones and members of his squad visited Glangwili Hospital on saturday morning to present gifts to the hospital's children's ward. The event was organised by General manager Kevin Morris as a result of his Guess The Score competition that raised over £200 for Cilgeran Ward.

05.12.04 Rhodri Jones who was airlifted to hospital on Saturday following a clash of heads during the Porthmadog v Carmarthen game is recovering well. He was transferred from Ysbyty Gwynedd to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd on Sunday for further specialist treatment but it is hoped that he will be released from hospital on Monday.

Reflecting on the game Town manager Mark Jones said, “In the circumstances the result was almost irrelevant. We're just happy that Rhodri is OK and hopefully will be back with us soon”.

Paying tribute to the team physios who treated Rhodri on the pitch he said, "Gary (Morris) and Jordanna (McCarley) did a fantastic professional job looking after Rhodri before the paramedics took over and we are grateful to the officials and fans of Porthmadog who helped us out during the afternoon.

Carmarthen Town 1 Afan Lido 1
Town struggled at times to contain a lively first half Lido performance. McCreesh should have put the visitors ahead in the first quarter but somehow scooped his shot over the bar with the net at his mercy. Lido did take the lead in the 24th. minute when O'Leary, Bartley and Pridham broke away from midfield and Bartley's effort from the right took a deflection to give the visitors a deserved lead .

Town leveled the score twelve minutes later. Pennock's long clearance was flicked on by Lima and Cotteral out wide made ground and squared the ball for Summers to knock in the equaliser on 36 minutes. With the game played at high tempo it was end to end stuff and McCreesh should have added a second when Lido charged down a clearance and the No7 hit the ball across the face of the goal and narrowly wide.

The second half never lived up to the first. Carl Evans cleared everything from the back for the visitors as Town went down the middle rather than use the flanks but with Lido winning all the 50/50 balls Town found it hard to be creative. Leigh Shrimpton got in some important tackles for the visitors and Rhodri Jones was influential for Town but despite chances falling to both sides there was no addition to the score - which , on balance, was a fair reflection of the game.

13.11.04 Following Town's game with Airbus Richard Carter received the McGinley's Player of the Month Award from match sponsor Lloyd Jones Regional Manager of HSBC

08.11.04 Congratulations to RHODRI JONES on being awarded the Welsh Premier League's PLAYER OF THE MONTH AWARD for October.

Carmarthen Town will host S4C's programme Y Clwb Pêl Droed on December 11th when Bangor City will be the visitors and on New Year's day when Haverfordwest will be the visitors.

03.11.04 Martyn Giles has been awarded the McGINLEY RECRUITMENT SERVICES PLAYER OF THE MONTH AWARD FOR SEPTEMBER. In winning the award ‘Gilo' beat off the challenge of fellow defender Luke Hardy. Well done Martyn!

ACADEMY STRUCTURE -
Town manager Mark Jones has been appointed Academy Director. Emlyn Schiavone has taken on the responsibility of Head of Youth Development
and Bernie Lewis is appointed Head Coach. Gareth Thomas is the Academy's Administrator and under the structure that has been put in place first team players will also form an integral part of the new arrangements. This will ensure that the relationship between the Academy and First Team is strengthened and developed.

The response to Academy sessions has been outstanding to the extent that Town now run Community Football sessions in addition to the Academy sessions. The future of youth development at Carmarthen Town looks very encouraging.

10.10.04 Craig Lima's hat-trick on Friday evening is almost certainly a Welsh Premier League record. With three goals in three minutes - 87,89,90 Lima's exploits mirrored those of Bournemouth's James Hayter against Wrexham in February of this year. Hayter came on with six minutes remaining and struck three times in 2minutes 20 seconds to set an English League record .

05.10.04
Town are drawn away to Cymru Alliance outfit Gresford Athletic in the 3rd. round of the Welsh Cup . The draw, which was due to be made on Y Clwb Pêl Droed, has been posted on the FAW's website.
