pryder i’w gefnogwyr ond gobeithio na fydd yn ennill unrhyw bwyntiau heddiw.
The situation at the top of the league is beginning to look
very ominous with Barry establishing
a gap between themselves and their nearest challengers. Rhyl who have caused a great deal of controversy in League Of Wales
circles over the last two weeks and are second at present were not good enough
to halt the top team last week. The other close challengers are Bangor and Caernarfon both of whom have been hammering home the goals recently
with both Marc Lloyd Williams and Tommy Mutton to the forefront. TNS will be very disappointed with
their recent form which has seen them drop back from their promising position
at the top of the League. The next batch of challengers include Connah’s Quay Nomads who must sort
their pitch out if they are to have any say in the league, Cwmbran who are receiving a lot of stick because of the condition
of their ground at present, and Carmarthen
Town who are playing well at the moment.
These are the teams who will form the top of the table by the end of the
season.
Hoping to bridge the gap and to get into the Premier Cup are
Caersws who if they had started the
season in better form would be in a far better position in the League. Aberystwyth will be a problem for the
top teams for the rest of the season but are too far behind to have more than
nuisance value for the remainder of the season. Afan Lido continue to gain some very good victories but need to
improve on their away form if they are to further their ambitions. Newtown have continued with their lack
lustre performances that have characterised their season so far. Port Talbot have also been relying on
their home form to kept them out of the relegation struggle.
The rest of the teams are left in a relegation dogfight.
These include today’s visitors whose main advantage over the rest of the teams
is that they do score goals. Flexsys
Cefn Druids problem is that they concede too many goals. Llanelli, despite appointing a new
manger to improve results, have not fared much better, whilst Haverfordwest who have taken the same
escape avenue are also still struggling to improve, especially away from home
having only gathered three points on their travels. The other two teams at the bottom are Oswestry Town and Rhayader
who have the worst goal difference records in the League. However, Rhayader
will have been buoyed by a couple of very good results in recent weeks.
Dyma ni felly yn dod i

charfannau proffesiynol neu fawr gyda chryn fantais. Bydd gemau Cwpan Cymru a
Chwpan y Gynghrair hefyd yn faich ychwanegol i rai ohonynt, ond dyma un o gostau
llwyddiant. Ymlaen felly gan obeithio bod y Dewin wrth ei waith!
PRAWF MAWR I’R DDAU DÎM heddiw gyda’r
ymwelwyr heb wneud yn dda iawn yn ddiweddar ond meant yn dal i fod yn llinyn
mesur i bob clwb arall. Ar ôl buddugoliaeth dda yr wythnos ddiwethaf rhaid i’r
tîm cartref sicrhau rhywfaint o bwyntiau heddiw.
There
appears to be a Premiership style battle at the top of the League of Wales.
Eight teams have a genuine chance of winning the League. Current leaders T.N.S. have not enjoyed the best of
runs recently, which means that the situation at the top of the League has
tightened up. Bangor City have their scoring machine in full
working order and will be a good bet if Marc Lloyd-Williams continues his rich
vein of form throughout the season. Connah’s Quay Nomads have also
retained their position with the front-runners while today’s visitors Barry appear to be inconsistent at
present which must be a worry for their fans.
The other
team from North West Wales Caernarfon
Town will be pleased with their progress, with another top class striker in
Tommy Mutton in fine form at present. The form side at present are Cwmbran who continue to defy logic by
winning all their games away from home except for a blip on Tuesday evening.
They also have several games in hand, but of course these have to be won if
they are to benefit. Another team still with a chance are Rhyl but I have a doubt about their credentials because they have
lost far more games than any of the other front runners. The other team of
course is Carmarthen Town. Perhaps
my worry that we have not scored as many goals as the other teams will
disappear after a fine hat trick last Saturday by Chris Summers ably assisted
by his co- strikers Ryan Nicholls and Chris Miller.
The only
other team with any chance of catching up with the top teams is Aberystwyth but until they get a full
squad of players together they will find it difficult to close the gap even
with their games in hand. Caersws are
also in far better form than they were and could prove a stumbling block for
any title contenders. Afan Lido appear
to be happy as long as they are above Port
Talbot in the League which their home form should ensure. Both teams are good enough to stay out of
the relegation battle but not much more. Last Saturday’s visitors Newtown are having their poorest season
for some time and, although still playing attractive football, were
disappointing.
The rest
of the teams will be trying to avoid relegation. Flexsys Cefn Druids,
until last Saturday, have conceded more goals than anyone in the League and
that has to be sorted if they are to survive. Llanelli’s problems appear to be at the other end of the field with
an average of a goal a game only. Haverfordwest
have games in hand but they appear to play well against the better sides and
poorly against the clubs near the bottom. Oswestry
are another side that has a porous defence and will be looking to improve their
win/loss ratio very quickly if they intend to survive. Rhayader Town are destined for relegation.

yng Nghei Conna, ond gobeithio hefyd bod eu lwc wedi aros yno.
In a totally nice situation at present are T.N.S.
who have overtaken the shocked Connah’s
Quay Nomads at the top of the table. I have a feeling that they will be
difficult to replace. The Nomads were given a real hiding, score wise, by lowly
Llanelli. Bangor appear to be back on track and are in a threatening position
with a game in hand. Barry despite
the apparent lack of goodwill between the goalkeeper and defenders are also
handily placed.
Despite their pitch problems Cwmbran
have continued to win most of their games on the road. They also have games in
hand. Carmarthen will be glad to be
back to winning ways although they do not appear to be at the top of their
form. It has already been a long season. Last Saturday’s visitors Rhyl have been very inconsistent but
will be a match for any team on their day. Caernarfon
will have boosted by their win last weekend and will continue to hold their mid-table
position for the rest of the season.
Aberystwyth have gone
through the mill recently having replaced their manager and also losing several
members of their squad. They will find it difficult to catch up with the
pacesetters at the top of the league. Newtown are finding it very difficult to
score goals these days and are drawing too many games to be a threat. Afan Lido were very disappointing when
they played here a few games ago but appear to be capable of better. Caersws have made great progress in
the last few weeks and are the in-form side at the moment.
Haverfordwest are
apparently back on track and should improve on their position but their new
team will take time to gel together. Port
Talbot are just above the relegation spots and will be hoping to pick up a
few precious points before long. Also down there are Oswestry who are struggling to score goals.
Despite their great win last
Saturday Llanelli cannot be happy
with their position and their comparatively new managerial team will be looking
over their shoulders ominously. Flexsys
Cefn Druids have conceded more goals than any other side and not
surprisingly occupy one of the relegation places. In a far more perilous
position are Rhayader. An ominous
gap is developing between them and the rest of the league. They are desperately
in need of an upsurge in fortune.

Connah’s
Quay Nomads still lead the table and are the most impressive side to have
appeared in the League at Richmond. T.N.S.
are making very steady progress and are very likely to remain as title
contenders for the rest of the season. In third place are Carmarthen Town but more about them later on. Rhyl remain near the top but their away form does not compare
favourably with their home performances. Having suffered at the hands of the
better teams in the League Bangor
have dropped from their previous heady heights.
Today’s visitors have played fewer games than
the rest of the teams and are therefore in a false position. I have yet to see
a poor side from Cwmbran and
tonight’s game will be a pleasure to watch if previous encounters are any yardstick,
with a fast flowing game predicted. That has probably put an end to a high
scoring spectacle! Caernarfon also
appear to be slipping down the table with their good form at the start of the
season a distant memory.
I must mention Aber after their tremendous
performance last week. Aberystwyth must
be still in a state of shock following their defeat by Aberaman in the Cup. Afan
Lido is another side with difficulties at present. They appear to find it
difficult to put the ball in the onion bag. Haverfordwest meanwhile face different problems. What is most
worrying about this situation is that the teams who play them at present are
not playing a side at full strength. What effect will this have on the League
by the end of the season?
Port Talbot Town
have made changes to their managership and will be a team to keep an eye on in
the near future. Newtown have
continued with their poor form which must be worrying for all concerned. Oswestry Town did not look like
a side destined for relegation when they very nearly shocked the Richmond Park
faithful. Flexsys Cefn Druids appear to have forgotten how to
win at home this year. This was their strong point in previous seasons. Llanelli have this week appointed a new manager. Hopefully they will have
somebody who will get them out of trouble! Rhayader
Town having also appointed a new manager have picked themselves off the
bottom of the League but there is still a long hard haul ahead of them. Caersws remain the enigma of the League
at present. Having performed admirably in all cup competitions their League
form seems to have deserted them. They need a boost before the gap becomes too
large.

Ar ôl yr holl gêmau cwpan yn ddiweddar mae’n braf cael croesawu
arweinwyr y Gynghrair i Gaerfyrddin. Bydd heddiw yn brawf da i’r ddau dîm.
Connah’s Quay Nomads must be
very proud of their achievements so far this season. Not only do they top the
League but they are also the leading goalscorers as well. Let’s see how they
cope with one of the meanest defences in the League. Bangor have continued to please their supporters with their
impressive start to the season. T.N.S. have
made progress as well and will be one of the main challengers throughout the
season.
Afan Lido have surprised a few people with their start. They
are a team I have always admired because of their attitude to all levels of
football within the club. Caernarfon are pleasantly surprising
their supporters with their early season form. Rhyl were neat and tidy when they appeared in the Premier Cup but
were lacking up front. Probably a different proposition on their home patch. Haverfordwest were made to struggle in
the Cup last week but are becoming more difficult to beat. Newtown have been
disappointing of late and need to regain their confidence.
Barry have eventually replaced their manager with an internal
appointment. Why did they take so long to do this? Was Kenny Brown the first
choice? They will be glad to have the chance of gaining a few League points
during the coming weeks. Aberystwyth
appear to be settling more as a side as the players get to know each other
better and will offer a stern challenge to any team during the next few months.
Cwmbran are another team who have
played fewer games than many other sides and are difficult to judge at
present. Flexsys Cefn Druids are in a happier position than a month ago and
will be hoping to continue with their present form.
Llanelli have also flattered to deceive and will be becoming
rather anxious. Port Talbot will be rather worried as well, especially as they are
a number of goals down. Caersws do not appear to be firing on
all cylinders at present mainly due to injuries to several key players. Oswestry are another club with problems
in defence having conceded the highest number of goals so far this season. The Rhayader
committee have taken a gamble with their new managerial appointment. It is
important for the League to have characters like Meirion Appleton but we shall
have to wait and see what he manages to do for Rhayader. Croeso ‘nôl Meirion.

DIWRNOD ‘DERBY’ UNWAITH ETO! 22.09.01
I mi mae gêm heddiw yn adlewyrchu pob dim
sy’n dda am Gynghrair Cymru. I’r bobl sy’n
beirniadu’r safon, y cyfleusterau a’r torfeydd, dylent fynychu gêmau fel un
Caerfyrddin yn erbyn Aberystwyth. Cyn
dyfodiad y Gynghrair byddai bron yn amhosibl i’r ddau dîm yma gwrdd mewn gêm
gystadleuol.
There is some good news for North Wales at present
with their sides dominating the top of the League, but please do not have false
hopes because Bolton were also top of the Premiership for a short time! Bangor have started impressively
especially with going to T.N.S. and gaining a point. Connah’s Quay also
will be very pleased with their present position while Caernarfon will be shocked.!
Having listened to several interviews with Caernarfon officials before
the season started , I am most surprised to see them near the top of the
League. Perhaps they too have flattered to deceive.
One of the
teams who have employed several full time players lead the struggle against
North Walian supremacy. T.N.S. also
appear to be leading the arguments for further developments in the League’s
future. Today’s visitors have also seen major developments off the field with
the appointment of a new manager who is also new to the LoW scene. Aberystwyth have also seen the arrival
of a number of new players. Afan Lido
also appear higher up the table than usual, boosted by better away form.
The usual suspects are in mid table at
present. Rhyl having lost two games
already will not be too pleased with their position. While Newtown have rather spoilt their fine start to the season. Llanelli were firmly put in their place
by Cwmbran recently but will surely fare better than last year. Carmarthen themselves have faced a
difficult fixture list further emphasised by today’s visitors. They could
easily have lost all their games.
The
interesting team at present is Barry
and we’ll see how they will manage without their manager. Peter Nicholas
admitted that it took him time to work out how to be successful at this
standard. It will not be easy to follow in his footsteps as he appeared to be
running more than the football side of the club. His successor faces a
difficult task.
Our neighbours from Pembrokeshire have made a
steady start to the season and I will await their results with interest. Haverfordwest have the facilities to
become one of the leading contenders in the League. Cwmbran face a difficult season having to play every game away from
home but I believe that their squad is good enough and experienced enough to
overcome this problem.
The rest of the teams I think are in for a
long and difficult season. Port Talbot
will need to gain points away from home to ensure their safety. My tips for the
two relegation positions are Rhayader
who do not appear to have the squad to compete at this level at present, Oswestry who were fortunate to survive
last season and have not started as well this year, and Flexsys Cefn Druids who have had a disastrous start to the season.
Felly dyma’r sylwaadu cyntaf am y tymor. Bydd rhywun yn sicr o fod
yn anhapus ar ôl eu darllen ond maent yn creu trafodaeth! Cawn weld beth fydd
gan y Black and Green Army i‘wd dweud
heddiw. Cyfle arall i’r Myrddin eu profi’n anghywir!
