DIWEDD Y DAITH !
Croes i’r tim o Barc Latham, yr unig gae sydd wedi ei enwi ar ol ysgrifennydd clwb arall! Mae’r frawddeg fer hon yn fwy o Gymraeg nac oedd yn y raglen wythnos ddiwethaf am un o gemau mwyaf yng nghalendar peldroed yng Nghymru. Rwy’n amau a oes parch gan y Gymdeithas Beldroed at unrhyw beth.
After the euphoria of the semi final win against Conwy I was very impressed by the attitude of the Carmarthen side when they faced local rivals Haverfordwest last Saturday. It could have been very easy to turn up and just go through the motions.Da iawn bois. Today’s visitors Newtown have made their place in next seasons Invitation cup secure even though they have not done as well this year.
Barri of course have had the league sown up for a long time but have contiued to grind out another fine series of results while Inter Cable-Tel seem to be safe in second position. Cwmbran might catch up but I expect that they will finish third in the league. Aberystwyth have also done well recently even with a change of manager. These four sides are by far the best in the league and deserve their success.
I am surprised that Caernarfon have done so well becaure they were rather disappointing when I saw them at Richmond. Conwy will be rather disappointed with the end to their season while T.N.S. were in my opinion one of the more attractive footballing sides that I saw this year. Caersws continued to succeed in gaining enough points to secure a safe position in the league. They continue to surprise me each year with their performances. Things do not appear to be going very well for Bangorpool. What a pity!
Haverfordwest also produced a good footballing side and achieved some pleasing results. Connah’s Quay will be pleased to see the end of this season and will hopefully be able to sort out their pitch for next season. Both Afan Lido and Rhayader will be happy with their finishing positions after looking to be in deep trouble earlier on in the season. Rhyl who were my tip to go down at the start of the season manged to avoid relegation by one place as we say farewell to Holywell once more. Carmarthen finished exactly where I predicted at the start of the season. Unfortunately I had not put any money on that situation working out.
The league will also welcome a new side next season with Flexy Cefn Druids having won the northern title. It also appears that Llanelli will rejoin the league even though they will only finish in second position in the southern section of the league.
Ar ran pwyllgor peldroed Ysgolion Caerfyrddin, Ceredigion, a Phenfro hoffwn ddiolch i reolwr Caerfyrddin, Tomi "Myrddin" Morgan, am fod yn wr gwadd mor yn ein noson wobrwyo nos Iau ddiwethaf. Mae ei frwdfrydedd yn ysbrydoliaeth i bawb, heb son am ei ddoniau hudol ar y cae peldroed. Beth am flwyddyn nesaf yn barod?
CROESO i dîm Treffynnon. Mae’n bosibl cydymdeimlo â sefyllfa’n gwrthwynebwyr heddiw oherwydd gallai Caerfyrddin fod yn yr union un sefyllfa hefyd onibai am y gwelliant ers ychydig cyn y Nadolig. Y Meseia neu’r Myrddin sy’n gyfrifol am hyn?
The situation at the bottom of the table looks very difficult for today’s visitors from Holywell with a gap developing between them and Rhayader who have produced some very good results lately. Other teams involved at the bottom include Rhyl, Afan Lido, and Connah’s Quay. At present all three teams appear to be playing well enough to keep out of even worse trouble.
Out of the relegation struggle are Carmarthen Town who following on from two recent defeats appear to have little hope of reaching the top eight. That defeat at the hands of Bangor was a bitter personal pill to swallow! Haverfordwest have overcome their sticky patch and have benefitted from several on-loan signings. Perhaps the incentive for the rest of the season would be to finish above our Pembrokeshire rivals in the league.
Cup semi final opponents Conwy continue to battle in mid table, the main difference between Carmarthen and the teams above being home form. Statistically Carmarthen had gained 9 points before Wednesday’s game, the others have gained the following
This difference in home form appears to have cost Carmarthen a much higher position in the league.
Barry, with the league sown up, Inter Cable-Tel, Cwmbran, Aberystwyth, under new management, and Caernarfon appear to be safe bets for the top eight places. The others have a major incentive in striving to improve their position by the end of the season. My own personal preferences would be to see Newtown, Caersws, and Haverfordwest finishing high enough to qualify for the televised money spinner.
Those predictions would mean that T.N.S. would lose out and also Bangor unfortunately! It was interesting to note the rumour on Gôl last Sunday that Meirion Appleton might be on his way to Farrar Road. What an interesting mixture!
DA OEDD GWELD y bechgyn yn ennill gartref yn y gynghrair nos Fercher. Beth am fuddugoliaeth arall y prynhawn yma i gadw’r momentwm i fynd?!
"*****!!!!!!!! "meddai Paul Rowlands!
BOIS BACH dyna i chwi brynhawn arbennig dydd Sadwrn diwethaf. Nid yn unig gobeithio bod Caerfyrddin yn mynd i ennill y gêm ond hefyd yn ceisio gweithio allan pryd oedd chwaraewr-reolwr Caernarfon yn mynd i adael y maes. Diddorol iawn oedd ceisio esbonio i bobl barchus beth oedd ei farn am y tri swyddog a oedd yn gyfrifol am y gêm, yn enwedig yn ei acen arbennig.
Even my two workmates ( not friends ) from North Wales were quite prepared to admit that Caernarfon did not deserve to win. They also could not understand many of the wise words of wisdom that flowed from the tongue of the Caernarfon player manager after his sending off.
There has been very little change in the league table with Barry still dominating at the top. My favourite other side Inter Cable-Tel have also continued to do well and appear to have the second position sown up. Aberystwyth and their money do not appear to be holding their form with Newtown creeping ever closer after their bad patch. Cwmbran and T.N.S. are the other two sides with hopes of achieving European competition next year. These top sides appear to be certain members of next year’s invitation cup, courtesy of the B.B.C., unless the goalposts are moved during the season! I would think that having a dynamic manager such as Tomi Morgan would boost viewing figures even if Carmarthen finish in eighth position. Most home supporters ( as well as the manager ) would be very pleasantly surprised with that position.
It is with great personal disappointment that I have to mention the poor form of the bastions of Welsh soccer in North Wales. Both Caernarfon and Bangor appear to be going absolutely nowhere. Conwy, Connah’s Quay, Rhyl, and Holywell are also struggling near the bottom of the league. - despite their access to a pool of players form nearby urban centres!
Carmarthen achieved a very good win at Caersws, one of their bogey sides while Haverfordwest have made an effort in improving their position by signing ex Carmarthen player, and numerous other clubs, Nigel Stephenson. He was one of the heroes that took Carmarthen into the League of Wales and his contribution should not be forgotten. Afan Lido and tonight’s visitors appear to be the sides most likely to go down this year. Everton are the only other side with a worst home record than Afan Lido. Rhaeadr under the 'magician' might have stayed up but without the magic wand they look very uncomfortable.
Rhaid i mi gytuno yn llwyr gyda sylwadau y gohebydd arbennig yn y raglen Sadwrn diwethaf. Rwy’n ffan mawr o Ar Y Marc ar fore Sadwrn, yn rhoi blas ar gemau’r prynhawn, yn anffodus nid yw Gol ar brynhawn Sul yn cyrraedd y nod. Efallai bod Baddiel a Skinner yn ddoniol i’r Saeson ond nid yw Llewelyn a Gill yn ddoniol o gwbl! Rwy’n synnu bod sylwebydd craff fel Ian Gwyn Hughes yn methu cael mwy o ddylanwad ar y cynhyrchydd. Hefyd nid yw Dai ‘doom and gloom’ Davies cystal sylwebydd a hynny ac mae eisiau iddo feddwl cyn ymateb. Sylwadau cadarnhaol ar adegau os gwelwch yn dda.
Mwy na thebyg dyna’r golofn ddiwethaf ond o leiaf rwy’n cael cyfle i ddweud beth mae’r cefnogwr cyffredin yn ei gredu. Diolch Alun
CROESO I DRE 'MYRDDIN MORGAN'
Croeso i chi lawr o Gaernarfon. Rwy’n sicr eich bod yn gyfarwydd a’r dewin newydd erbyn hyn, byddwch yn ofalus mae’n sgorio goliau hefyd! Cerdded ar ddwr nesaf?
Barry appear to have the league title sown up once again but there have been quite a few significant results over the last few wet and windy weekends. How have Cwmbran managed to lose at home to two of the poorer sides in the league, Mark Aizlewood would appear to be a better prospect as a Welsh teacher than as a football coach! Afan Lido need to score more goals than they have done to get further out of trouble. Rhayader have been very positive with their managerial appointment but is David Webley the answer to scoring problems! Holywell have retained their position near the bottom of the league. Rhyl and Connah’s Quay have been ground sharing lately but neither team has made much progress.
Conwy and Haverfordwest have continued to show indifferent form with Conwy being the only team in the league not to have won away from home. A point further ahead of Haverfordwest, Carmarthen Town a side with poor home form, have joint highest number of home defeats. Wave that wand please manager! My friends from the north are also in mid table! Caersws continue to produce the goods when necessary while today’s visitors have only lost 4 league games so far this season. Caernarfon are always an attractive footballing side and that is the last compliment for North Wales this season.
Newtown have kept in touch with the sides near the top the league - but at what cost to their pitch? T.N.S. have made steady progress lately and could figure in the fight for the runners up position. Aberystwyth on the other hand have hit a poor patch, perhaps money is not the answer to all their problems. Inter Cable-Tel have maintained their good form and have established a cushion between themselves and the other teams vying for an European place.
A feature of the last few weeks has been the condition of some of the pitches seen on TV. Does the presence of cameras influence whether a game is postponed or not?
Buddugoliaeth fach arall heddiw a bydd y gobeithion am safle yn hanner uchaf yr adran yn cynyddu ac hefyd bydd yn amserol iawn cyn chwarae Caernarfon yn y cwpan mis nesaf. Croeso i’r chwaraewyr newydd gobeithio eich bod yn mynd i gael cymaint o ddylanwad ar y clwb ac y mae’r rheolwr/chwaraewr wedi cael.
Gair bach o gyngor i’r pwyllgor. Efallai byddai’n well codi’r ffens tu flaen i’r gol yn hytrach na tu ol iddi.
CROESO I’R MYRDDIN NEWYDD!
Yn dilyn y ddwy fuddugoliaeth yn erbyn Y Barri a Hwlffordd pwy all amau bod dewin newydd wedi cyrraedd Caerfyrddin a’r cyffiniau! Prynhawn byth gofiadwy ar Barc Waun Dew yn y gwynt a’r glaw a thîm gorau’r Gynghrair yn cael ei roi yn ei le, yn cael ei ddilyn gan berfformiad disgybiedig y Sadwrn canlynol yn erbyn y gelynion o Sir Benfro. Beth nesaf dewin Morgan?
Barry proved how good a side they were by bouncing back from their defeat by Carmarthen with a fine victory over third placed Aberystwyth, despite going behind to an early goal. In second place are Cwmbran who have not been too convincing of late, this probably means that they will play really well from now till the end of the season. These teams are followed by today's visitors Inter Cable-Tel who are my tip for the runners-up position. They have made significant moves in the transfer market which have paid dividends and led to their rise up the league table. They also produced a good result over the weekend against Barry.
Caernarfon Town have played consistently over the last month but will feel rather disappointed with their form at home where they have drawn 5 of their 7 games. Newtown have not performed as well as I expected while near neighbours T.N.S. have also drawn a large proportion of their games.
Conwy benefited from a good win over Bangor and leapt up the table because a large number of clubs have similar records. Haverfordwest could struggle for the rest of the season unless they rediscover their scoring touch. Connah’s Quay have played the least number of games, especially at home. Caersws are another side that will find it difficult for the rest of the season but their home form could be decisive.
We then get to the lower reaches of the league which fortunately does not feature Carmarthen Town. But for their win at Carmarthen Rhyl would be in even greater trouble while Holywell think that the answer to their problems is to appoint a new manager. Well it has worked at one club! Afan Lido have beaten their bogey at home but one win is not enough. Rhayader have lost their magician and will find it hard going over the winter months.
Carmarthen’s victory over Barry must be regarded as a shock victory but was thoroughly deserved and the good work continued with a very disciplined performance at Bridge Meadow. Today’s game is a different proposition since today's visitors are the form team of the league. A win today would be a springboard towards the upper half of the table and hopefully a place in next year’s Premier trophy. This could have been interpreted as wishful thinking three weeks ago but the magic wand has been waved and the club and supporters have been infected by the new enthusiasm about the place.
Gobeithio bod pawb wedi cael hen ddigon o dwrci ac yn edrych ymlaen at stwffio rhywbeth arall y prynhawn yma. Pob hwyl i bawb am y flwyddyn newydd.
CROESO LAWR O GERIATRICA
If the readers of this column think that I am being rather insulting towards our visitors I hasten to explain that geriatrica is a geographical description of the north east Wales coastal towns. It is not a description of the Rhyl playing staff, although the appearance of a few elderly ladies in their line up would possibly help the Carmarthen side!
The surprise result of the latest league games was Rhayader excellent performance at Cwmbran. This must have frightened a few of the sides just above the struggling mid Wales team who produced another good performance against Bangor, that very strong North Wales side in the cup. A rather better result than Carmarthen produced! If November/December have any Ides, beware of them Mr. Mahoney.
Today’s game becomes very important with some teams such as Carmarthen and Rhyl having to string together a series of results in order to avoid being involved in a long relegation struggle. Two seasons ago it was only three very good results over the Christmas period which saved Carmarthen from relegation. Hopefully another miracle will not be needed this year. It is only possible to have only one every millenium! I fully expect today’s visitors, Holywell and Conwy to struggle for the rest of the season unless they are able to find a major benefactor. Afan Lido and Caersws are are likely to join this relegation dogfight, along with the previosly mentioned Rhayader. Other teams are destined for mid table mediocrity but with the B.B.C. giving such a high profile to their competition mediocrity is not such a bad thing! Thus teams such as Caernarfon, Inter Cable-Tel and Connah’s Quay do have something to aim for which makes the league far more interesting.
I will make myself unpopular with Haverfordwest this month and predict that their results will not be as good. While even further up the table Newtown will regain their confidence after some poor results. That leaves Cwmbran, Aberystwyth ( who might benefit even more from the drinking and eating over Christmas than any other football side ) and the visitors to Richmond Park in two weeks time, Barry to break away from the rest of the league.
Gan nad yw’r golofn hon yn mynd i ymddangos tan ar ôl y Nadolig ( neu byth eto o dan ei ffurf bresennol ) dyma rai dymuniadau am yr ðyl:
Gobeithio bydd y golofn hon yn cael ei chyhoeddi ar Rhagfyr 26ain heb unrhyw ymyrraeth gan asiantaethau allanol o Gaerdydd!
BETH YW’R BROBLEM BANGOR!!
Croeso i Gaerfyrddin. Gobeithio bod y siwrne o Lerpwl, wps, sôri Bangor, wedi bod yn un hwylus. Ar ôl y glaw trwm diweddar rwy’n edrych ymlaen am gêm gystadleuol rhwng dau dîm a ddylai fod, yn fy marn i, yn uwch yn y Gynghrair.
The league situation appears to be returning to normal with Barry regaining their position at the top of the table. They are followed closely by Aberystwyth who appear to need at least one new striker because of injuries. Cwmbran also continue to produce the results when necessary. The team that has impressed me lately with their form is the team that is without their manager, Haverfordwest. When Eddie May returns from Finland I hope their fine run continues! Since this was written initially Eddie has returned but in a new capacity.
Since we are discussing managers Tomi Morgan appears to have a positive effect on Rhayader. Not only has he produced a team to beat Carmarthen, signed a Brazilian, and scored a goal but has established a link with the Welsh Schools Under 18 squad, probably to have a look at the talent available in that squad. Bangor have also appointed yet another new manager, for how long nobody is certain, while Rhyl appear to have lost their manager. Bangor also have a problem in trying to appease their fans. Perhaps a language problem exists between the local fans and the over-Mersey rather than the overseas players.
Last week’s opponents Newtown could suffer from the injection of money into the Aber side, having lost a couple of players already. There have been rumours of another player returning to his former club. T.N.S. have been producing some good results but are inconsistent at present.
Connah’s Quay also appear to have peaked too early in the season conceding two heavy defeats in West Wales. Conwy have beeen disappointing as well. Holywell appear to be adapting quite well on their return to the league, while Afan Lido have done well considering their home form.
The surprise team near the bottom of the league is Inter Cable-Tel but they have been very busy in the transfer market which led to a fine victory last Sunday. One of the so called northern giants Caernarfon, do not appear to be producing the goods, especially away from home. Caersws continue to pick up points when necessary, although they were well beaten by Inter Cable-Tel. Carmarthen’s away point last week was a great improvement on recent results. It has also been interesting to note that the Western Mail has noticed that there is life beyond Barry!
Dewch ymlaen neu bydd hi’n rhy hwyr am y gynghrair heb sôn am y Cwpan ac Ewrop. Bydd tri phwynt heddiw yn fan da iawn i ail gychwyn y tymor ac i gyrraedd y gobeithion a osodwyd ar ddechrau’r tymor.
HASTA LA VISTA HWLFFORDD ! Haverfordwest County 23/9/98
Wedi cael diwedd tymor digon dymunol. Wedi gweld Brasil v Chile a Ffrainc v Paraguay ond yn ysu am gael gwylio Caerfyrddin unwaith eto i weld pa mor dda yw’r chwaraewyr newydd yma. Gobeithio nad yw gêm Aberystwyth yn adlewyrchiad teg o weddill y tymor.
Some people might think that President Bill Clinton is having slight problems but Barry seem to have even bigger problems since they managed to lose a league game at home. At least Clinton lost out while playing away! Perhaps their financial backing will not be quite as strong this year. No money for cigars this season!
Who else is likely to make an impression this year? Aberystwyth were very impressive recently and have built on that foundation without spending much of their recently found wealth. What of tonight’s visitors? Will they improve when their manager returns? They have started well without him. Afan Lido sprang the surprise of the year by defeating Barry but need to be far more consistent. Cwmbran have started shakily in comparison with their all-round pedigree, while Inter Cable-Tel have made a disastrous start to the season. Thankfully there will be no ‘Elbow’ Vale this year.
Has the bubble also burst at Newtown? Watch this space. Caersws have lost one of their star players with Graham Evans joining Aston Villa while T.N.S. have made several signings including Darren Ryan and, I would think, several of the British Universities squad. They could do really well. Managerless Rhayader are going to do well to stay in the League unless they sort their player policy and appoint a manager soon ( - pob lwc yn y swydd newydd Tomi ).
What about the North Wales clubs or is that the North Wales of Liverpool clubs? Having been to Liverpool to watch the Wales v Italy game recently and having a pint before the game I thought I was listening to some of Bangor’s players having a chat in the pub while listening to the local dialect. Will the old guard of Bangor and Caernarfon manage to produce decent sides to challenge the South East Wales stronghold? The league also welcomes back Holywell but is it any nearer than Ynys Môn? Conwy remain in the league but have not made any major impression. I do not expect them to do any better this season. That leaves Connah’s Quay Nomads, last Saturday’s visitors. They could benefit from last season’s great win against Barry in the Welsh Cup and make a genuine challenge for the league but they were put firmly in their place by a very entertaining Carmarthen Town, while Rhyl are my first tip for relegation which will probably mean that they will do quite well eventually!
Wel - Caerfyrddin i orffen yng nghanol y tabl unwaith eto ond i sgorio mwy o goliau na’r llynedd. O leiaf mae cyfartaledd oedran y tîm wedi gostwng ac mae’n bleser personol gweld dau arall o gyn- chwaraewyr ysgolion Cymru yn y garfan........... Felly dyma batrwm y tymor wedi ei osod!
