13.08.11 CARMARTHEN TOWN 0 NEWTOWN AFC 1

Robbie Millington's eleventh minute header proved the difference between the two sides as the Robins took all three points in this Richmond Park opener. Millington’s conversion of a right wing cross left the Old Gold chasing the game and with the visiting defence difficult to break down keeper Nick Thomas twice denied Town front man Nick Harrhy.

Harrhy’s 17th. minute fiercely struck free kick was tipped over the bar by the Robins stopper and with five minutes of the half remaining Thomas denied Harrhy a second time following a fine run on goal by the front man.

Kyle Graves, Steve Berry, Jack Christopher and Nicky Jones made their first starts in Old Gold giving Town a fresh look. But just before the break Town midfielder Kieran Howard was adjudged to have brought down Luke Boundford. And with Town keeper Mike Lewis saving Gareth Partridge's spot kick superbly Newtown were denied a second but maintained their slim advantage at the break.

Town began the second half in positive fashion. With both Nicky Palmer and captain Tim Hicks denied by the in-form Robins keeper. At the other end Lewis was forced into a fine save by Millington .

Then with the game winding down Hicks finally got the better of the keeper only to see defender Shane Sutton calmly clear his effort off the line to frustrate the Town front line yet again.

Despite manager Tomi Morgan making changes, with Cledan Davies and Lewis Jones making second half debuts from the bench, Town were unable to break down the visitors' resolve. And with the Robins holding on to their slim lead to claim a full tally, the Richmond Park outfit disappointingly drew an opening day blank for the third successive season.

20.08.11 BALA TOWN 2 CARMARTHEN TOWN 0

A debatable penalty decision and a top marksman's finish from Chris Mason gave the hosts the win that sees Town remain pointless for a second successive week. Whilst Tomi Morgans’ men remain goalless at the foot of the table the win sees the Lakesiders overtake Port Talbot Town at the top on goal difference.

In a goalless first half Town had the better of the chances. Bala's Mason and Mark Jones had speculative half chances from distance but it was Town front man Jack Christopher who came closest to breaking the deadlock. Having spotted keeper Terry McCormick off his line his speculative long rang effort went narrowly over on 25 minutes. Then, minutes later, when the keeper fumbled a Cledan Davies corner Christopher’s instinctive strike was cleared off the line by the covering John Irving.

McCormick atoned for his error when he again denied Christopher and then moments later produced a superb one handed save to push away Nicky Palmer’s placed shot after Christopher had ‘lain off’ in front of goal. But, on the stroke of half time, Mason should have done better when he headed over an excellent cross from the right when unopposed in front of goal.

Four minutes after the break the hosts took the lead. With Palmer seemingly winning the ball cleanly from Jones, referee Markham-Jones thought otherwise and pointed to the spot. And with Connolly sending the ball low into the corner of the net beyond Mike Lewis the Lakesiders broke the deadlock, somewhat against the run of play.

Town looked to strike back immediately but McCormick again proved defiant to deny Davies. But having gained the advantage and with Liam Loughlin replacing the injured Steve Brown in defence Bala looked more assured at the back as they now pushed forward.

If McCormick had kept his side in the game in the first half it was Lewis who kept Town in contention by denying Bala a second when he blocked out Michael Byron’s 'follow up' after Connolly’s well struck free kick had glanced off the outside of the post just after the hour.

But with twenty minutes remaining Mason sealed the win for the Lakesiders. Having provided from the flank he continued his run well to finish what he started and turn in the low return ball at the post to secure the points for the Maes Tegid outfit. Town manager Tomi Morgan will be disappointed that his side did not capitalise on their first half dominance. And, with television replays giving credence to his protestations of the penalty award, it was clearly a frustrating afternoon for the Richmond Park boss.

"I had better not say what I really feel about the penalty otherwise I could get into trouble, but it changed the match," said Morgan.

"I'm fuming. The referee clearly saw the incident differently to everyone else in the ground and to say I'm disappointed is an understatement

"Up to that point we were the side more likely to go on and win it but, once again, we failed to put away our chances."

26.08.11 CARMARTHEN TOWN 2 PORT TALBOT TOWN 0

A goal in each half saw Town secure the first win of the current campaign at Richmond on friday night. With the Richmond Park outfit having to withstand some intense Port Talbot pressure at times disciplined defending enabled Town to counter the threat with some incisive breaks as they recorded a confortable winning scoreline.

With Town looking to kick start the season Nicky Palmer's nineteenth minute strike gave Tomi Morgan’s men the best possible start. From a Port Talbot corner Palmer fed young wingman Steffan Williams who brokek down the flank and with his pulled back ball taking a deflection Palmer applied the finish from the edge of the box to record Town's first goal of the current campaign.

Morgan made two changes to his starting line up following last week’s defeat at Bala with Williams and defender Lee Bevan making their first starts of the season at the expense of Nick Harrhy and Steve Berry. And with Martin Rose restored to full fitness he added to the Blue's considerable fire-power.

Dylan Blain picked up on a stray Town pass but put his speculative ball over and Lee John's dipping volley just grazed Mike Lewis' bar. But following the early breakthrough Town maintained the advantage to the break and despite the visitors enjoying the majority of second half possession they lacked a cutting edge leaving Town keeper Lewis largely untroubled.

Two minutes from time sub Corey Thomas threaded the ball through to Tim Hicks who turned and fed new signing Cledan Davies who sealed the win with a debut strike that extended the Blue's dismal Richmond record and scuppered the Steelmen's unbeaten early run for the second successive season.

With Town registering their first points of the current campaign a delighted Tomi Morgan was quick to praise his squad. “The boys have been working hard from the start of the season and we may not have had the breaks we deserved in our first two games.

"We didn't play as well as we did last week on Maes Tegid but tonight we had the three points. That's how football is sometimes.

“Tonight, they applied themselves well to the job in hand. They defended well, showed a lot of composure against a determined Port Talbot side and took their chances well when they came.

“It was crucially important for us to get points on the board to kick-start our campaign and the boys have done just that. Now we can build for the future.”
