CARMARTHEN TOWN 1 RHYL FC 2

Despite contesting a third tough assignment in the course of a week Town manager Deryn Brace was clearly disappointed to have lost what looked like a share of the points.

“Whether we deserved a point or not in neither here or there. We could have got something out of this game but we’ve ended up with nothing because of thirty seconds of madness from a free kick. We can talk about the game being cruel but we’ve learnt a harsh lesson today”.

“Rhyl are the best team in the league. The League table states that because they are top and they are top by a number of points. Yes we’ve put in a better performance than we did up at Belle Vue, it was a close game. I think the tightness of the Rhyl players probably swayed it a bit more in their favour. When the going got tough for them they had men who come out and stood their ground. That’s something we’ve got to learn”.

Brace agreed that the pace of Rhyl substitute Craig Jones had given the visitors some late momentum. “In all fairness to the lad Craig Jones he’s got exceptional pace and obviously he (Rhyl manager) was gambling on Neil Roberts who’s done a fantastic job up front for them, sometimes working off scraps. But Craig had that extra yard of pace that they didn’t have earlier and it just put us on the back foot when we were tiring .

And as for his young keeper Brace felt he had come out with credit. “Alex in the two games that he’s come in has done fantastic. He’s come out with huge credit. We probably pitched him in a little sooner than we would have liked to but the circumstances are beyond our control and he’s come in and dealt with everything extremely well and he’s come out with huge credit”.

“Sometimes it’s a positive thing that a run comes to an end because you start another one and that’s exactly what we will look to do next week up at Airbus. We need to re-group now and our priority for the next few weeks is to get as many points as possible to keep us as high up the League as possible.”
