01.11.08 PWLLHELI 0 CARMARTHEN TOWN 6 (WC R3)
Deryn Brace - "Yes more than happy with the result. When it comes to the cup it's all about the result and to win 6-0 is an added bonus. An even bigger bonus was the way we did it. I thought the boys were thoroughly professional in the way they went about doing their job and they got their reward. Overall it was a really, really satisfying day".
"It was a team performance rather than any one individual being prominent. Usually you do have somebody that stands out but today we had eleven players who were absolutely solid. I cannot remember a more team orientated performance than today," he added.
How important was the early breakthrough? “The early goal was a massive boost. North Wales is never an easy place to go and get a result, even though we were playing a side in a lower league. So to take the wind out of them early was vital. There was a fairly sizable crowd and we managed to quieten them. Our start was what gave us the platform to go on and win fairly comfortably.
Having slipped up against lower opposition last year what had the manager said to the boys before the game? “Use your experience. The hurt and embarrassment we had twelve months ago against Newport YMCA, we didn’t want to go through it again. We’ve now played two sides from lower leagues and we’ve won them convincingly so we’ve moved on and we’ve heeded the lesson”.
Brace saw Town's fourth round draw as a tough assignment. "Probably as tough as you can get. In the cup you look for a home draw and the team you play you don't really look at as long as you have a home draw. We've come up with probably the hardest draw out of any side, TNS away”.
“We know what we have to do; we have to get a result so there is no point dwelling on the matter. I wouldn’t think TNS are really looking forward to us going there. Probably both of us would have preferred to have met one other in the final, but it’s not to be, it’s in the next round so let’s get it on".
Aiz's Angle - “Performance was good. Obviously the main thing irrespective of anything else was to make sure we were in the hat for the next round. We did that but we did it in a way that was pleasing. The game was competitive and I thought the players coped with it well”.
"We’ve changed the tactics in the last two games completely and I think the players are learning a different way of acquiring football results. The bottom line is for the first time today the opposition played more football than us but we actually won the game .We have a corporate responsibility to the football club to get results. We’ve had two clean sheets, and we’ve scored seven goals irrespective of opposition that’s a good record”.
“I thought Paul Fowler was magnificent. We took him off towards the end as a precautionary measure. I think he is one that if he gets the capability within himself, within his game, to do the basics well and efficiently he could go on to a higher level. Its about results, we’re in the results business. Its not pretty you can’t please everybody but the last two results have been magnificent”.
“I think the way we’re trying to play, what we call no nonsense defending, is taking some of the decision making process away from some defenders. It simplifies the game for them but they still have to have the ability to carry that out”.
“Richard Hughes is benefiting from the change in tactics and I think the Mark Dodds and Neil Smothers partnership in the middle of defence looks particularly solid at the moment”.
Doddsy - " I thought we stuck together as an unit well and I thought we deserved it. We managed to achieve everything we had talked about before the game. I would have been absolutely gutted if we hadn't have kept a clean sheet at the end."
